Anthony Kim could be out up to a year!

Well, it seems that Anthony Kim just can't shake the injury bug.  From his wrist, to his elbow, to his thumb, and now his Achilles tendon.  He has had terrible luck with injuries and the new one will sideline him for quite some time.

I couldn't imagine how frustrated he must be at this point.  In his position, do you ever get to the point of giving up?  Or do you just battle through the injuries and time away and try to keep up?  With the level of talent that keeps pouring out, how quickly do you get left behind?

I heard that he ruptured it, which has to be debilitating not only physically but mentally as well. I don't know if I'd give up if I was him (what else is he going to do?), but he's going to have a lot to battle through.

The only saving grace here is that he's still young enough to continue his career. He's got the game, he just has to get his body right. He just has to make sure now he dosen't panic and try to come back too soon.

Oh well, that will just give him more time to get drunk and party.  I always liked AK but in recent years his game has really been in the toilet and maybe some extended time off will give him some time to think about whether he really wants to be serious about golf or if he wants to do something else with his life.

Unless he's MC Hammer, he should be okay regardless of how things work out for him in terms of returning to the tour.  He's made $12.2 million so far.  I could manage.

He's only 27, take a year even two... get healthy and come back and show us what you can do.

Plus sponsorships.

He needs to look at Tiger and what he accomplished, Tiger was down and out for a couple years for personel reasons and appears to be back.  Anthony Kim will do the same thing.  Obviously he's no Tiger Woods but he competes just as hard and he will be back to the tour competing again in a couple years.  Look at a player like David Duval who has had a lot of physical problems.  He's not nearly as good as he once was but he still competes every weekend.

Theres a lot of stories out there about kim partying, but I mean the guy is young, give him time to enjoy life, he'll get out of that slump. He's a young man with a lot of money. He is doing what many young men with money do. He will get through it, and he will get through this injury.

Last time I checked, being too hung over to show up for work and perform at your best isnt OK.  The fact that he is young doesnt work for me and theres no excuse to go out and party the night before a tournament.

Its ok, because its his life, he is a fantastic golfer, and he is enjoying his youth. Good for him. Glad he realizes he wants to live while he works. He'll grow out of it, or fade away. Either way, its none of my business, or yours, what he does the night before he plays.

There is absolutely no evidence that anything but injuries has affected his game, and im sure the stories about him are mostly blown out of proportion.

Exactly what is wrong with AK partying before, during or after a tournament? Is someone here paying anthony kim for performance?

Yeah, I just don't understand this attitude these days that tour pros should just hole up in their hotel rooms at night playing video games with their caddy.

Back in the day, you had guys like Palmer yucking it up with whisky in hand at Toots Shor after midnight while sitting on the lead of the Weshchester Classic.

If anything, these guys today need to move beyond their comfort zones and entourages to embrace the big beautiful world (i.e nightlife) out there.

I couldn't agree more.  Somehow we now have this notion that pros used to be sober, faithful, and spent their every waking hour on the range.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  AK has over $13 million in career earnings.  His worst year was in '06 and he still won more than $300k.  He won over $1 million last year!  I think he's doing ok.

Anthony Kim was never as good as Tiger and while Tiger has won a few tournaments since his personal hiatus I'd say he's still not in his top form yet.  Kim can choose to rehab and work his way back to being competitive on the Tour  but I don't believe he has the same drive, talent or determination Tiger does so I'm not seeing the parallel here.

Some of the older pro's definitely were partiers but they were professionals too, they showed up for work and performed after a night of partying.  I see this in my own industry, the older sales guys can party all night at an industry event and get up at 7:00 am  to work the next day, the younger guys call in sick or look and perform like crap the next day.  I doubt anyone would care how much Kim partied as long as it didn't impact his ability to do his job on the course.

Even by his standards, that's a long night out! e2_whistling.gif
