Before high school I was an avid reader and read just about any book but now a junior in high school I haven't read a full book in years so I am just looking for some interesting golf books to read. I would prefer if they are on kindle/the iphone book app thing but I'll take any suggestions, they can be about the game in general, instruction, stories, I really do not care just want something interesting to read.

I'm a little biased since the authors are friends and colleagues of mine but I think you'll find this book very interesting. It's a MUST read if you're a golfer.

For golf fiction, I like "The Green" by Troon Mcallister. It is the first book in a series about a golf course hustler.

For course management I like Ray Floyd's book.

There is a relatively inexpensive detective series available on Amazon for the kindle where the protaganist is a journeyman tour pro.  Unlike a lot of these kinds of books the author gets the Tour stuff reasonably close to reality.  This is the first one:

I'm not a big fan of John Feinstein, but I did enjoy his behind the scenes look at the US Open coming to Bethpage Black:

If you want some easy reading golf history, Mark Frost's book about the 1913 US Open when Oimet beat Vardon and Ray in the playoff, which was the basis for the eponymus "The Greatest Game Every Played" movie, is even better than the movie was.

So there you go, one quasi-instructional book (the only not available on kindle),  some fiction, some relatively contemporary history, and some classic golf history.  All very readable and should be interesting to most folks who like golf.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

That sounds interesting - I'll have to check it out myself.

I recommend all three of them (The Green, The Foursome, and Scratch).  It's been about 9-10 years since I read them but I really enjoyed them.

The J Michael Veron golf novels are great also.

It is kind of dry unless you are really into golf, but Massacre at Winged Foot is about the 1974 US Open. In 1973 Johnny Miller had shot a 63 in the US Open, and in 1974, according to most sources, the USGA set up the course so that no one would do that again.

There are a few humorous lines in there, though.

A Course Called Ireland by Tom Coyne.  Fun read about traveling around Ireland by foot and play all the courses.

I looked into it and to be honest I doubt I will read it.  One of the things that drives me crazy about books set in a particular setting is where the author either has no direct experience in that setting or does not bother to do any research into what that setting is like.  This is a classic case.  Top players in the US won't play in the Ryder Cup because they are scared of the Euros?  So they put a 2-bit hustler on the team?   It just doesn't work for me at all.

One of the great things about, e.g., the Dick Frances books is that A) as a former champion jockey he has all the experience one could hope for in someone setting his books in the British horse racing scene, and B) when he brings in other areas, as he always does, they are very well researched.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Although probably not everyone's cup of tee, I found Tales from Q School, Inside Golfs 5th Major a pretty good read.  And of course I am a pretty big LSW fan :)
