I have a traditional 35 inch odyssey white hot putter that is fairly old with the original grip and I want to get a new grip but don't know which. I am a good putter inside 5 feet but once I start to get outside the 5-10 feet range I struggle. I tend to hit the ball off the ends of my putter when I have to take a big back swing and I try to choke up on my grip for more control but find that it doesn't help a lot. I tend to push or pull putts way too much so I just want a good controlling grip and I am even considering getting a new putter but would prefer to just get another putter grip.

Edit: Also wouldn't mind suggestions for grips for regular clubs since I hate the taylormade stock grips.

I'm sure people have plenty of ideas, but, I think the absolute best suggestion would be to go to a local retailer and try as many as you can and see what you like and what's available. There's been SO MUCH innovation in grips in recent years, with Super Stroke and other size and textural variants, you'll likely do best trying some stuff first and soliciting input once you've narrowed it down. Most retailers have grips on mocked up sticks to try out.

I agree with Dkolo, head to a golf shop and check them all out... Size, feel, etc. I have an Odyssey white hot putter as well. I liked the grip that came on it. When it wore down, I replaced it with a jumbo Winn grip. Very similar to the original, but just a little more width which is nice for putting. Let us know what you wind up with

Like everybody else said, try a lot of things out and decide what you like and what fits you...with your putter and other clubs.

Everybody has different putting strokes, swings, hand sizes which require different grip sizes, feels, preferences, etc.  Putters are especially personal as each putter aligns different to each person's eye.  Putting technique also differs more from player to player than other parts of the game.

I will tell you to not overlook Golf Pride Tour Velvet and Lamkin Crossline grips.  They are cheaper than some of the newer kind of grips, but they are great and lots of tour players still use them...but still be sure to try everything out.  Grip size might be more important that the kind of grip you get...try 'em out!!

I have a super stroke slim 3.0 and it has helped significantly in evening out my applied pressure. I find it much easier to judge distance with it. I also use an Odyssey White hot (v-line).

I apologize for having a spam URL in my signature and will not do it again.

Superstroke 2.0 or Winn jumbo lite has been working for me. I will always have a crush for a Scotty Cameron pistolero though. I just like'em.

I'll never go back to a standard flat front putter grip.

I have been trying out several different putters and grips from my friends and the round ones I liked but I used one of those big super stroke grips for a week and then my tournament this weekend and I got one today for my putter. I love the feel of it and I have much better speed/distance control.

If I get a new putter this summer could i just take off the super stroke one on my putter and put it on that one or would I have to buy a new putter?

  • 4 months later...

I just put on the Super Stroke Slim 3.0 putter grip. It is round and not tapered. My hand tension on the putter now is more manageable and it really encourages a smoother stroke. My brother thinks it is sacrilegious that I put it on my Scotty Cameron, but I love it.

I use the SuperStroke 3.0 also and haven't found another grip I like better.

I have an Odyssey with a SuperStroke 3.0 and love it. I noticed the biggest improvement in my lag putts, which seems to be the area in which you are struggling.

What's your reason for this? I would think the flat part would help with a constant grip? is it just feel?

Two I like: Pistol style: Winn Excel Midsize AVS Regular Round: Golf Pride CP2 midsize Both feel great. I've used the Winn for the past 6 years, and have been toying with the round one off and on this year (can't quite get used to it yet-though much of the discussion about a round grip on a putter makes sense to me).

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
