I bought a set of G10 irons on eBay.  There's some damage to the 8 iron that wasn't disclosed in the listing and I'm unsure if it will impact the play-ability of the club.

I did know it had the big gouge at the bottom, and I specifically asked if the damage crossed into the club face also.  Seller said no.  However, upon visual inspection, it seems there's a small hump where it looks like the club deformed.  It's close to the heel, so I'm not sure how much will really impact my hits.  Unsure if I should send these back over this or not.

Thoughts?

Shouldn't affect playability, but you should contact the seller as it was not disclosed to be that bad. Perhaps, he can give you some credit back?

Hammer it back to flush.

Really? What's the best way to do that? Or just literally hammer it directly on the bump? The seller did offer to reimburse me for the club if u wanted to keep it

Should I use something between the club and hammer to act as a buffer? I guess I'm afraid to make it worse than it is

I wouldn't worry about that. If the ball gets anywhere close to that, it would be a shank. Least of your worries.

Playability will be fine, just a cosmetic thing.

What condition did the seller say the set was in?

Another vote for don't worry about it... but he should have disclosed it. It is best to take pics of every club so there are no questions.

I'm putting this in my threads for when I get pictures of my clubs up... My sticks are beat to all hell but they still get the job done. At one point they were state of the art but somehere along the way, they ended up resembling something similar to scrap metal. As long as the blemishes don't affect your mental game or swing, I say game on.

I think half the fun of playing with new clubs is putting dings and scratches on the sole. It gives them a little personality.

Here's one he didn't disclose either. 4 iron. Nice gouge in the middle of the club face. Should have known better buying from a new user on eBay. He did include pictures but did a slick job hiding the defects. Think this will hit negatively?

Personally, I wouldn't do anything to them. They'll probably wear off in a couple thousand shots. If you belt sand it off, you end up taking off some of the plating. Hammering risks taking off more plating.

What was the condition stated? They are 7 year old clubs and look like they were used quite heavily. It doesn't look like the person cleaned them after every round. I may be a lousy player but I at least clean my clubs after a round. Yeesh.

For the age of the clubs, they look pretty new to me. My clubs are used, and they looked almost new when I got them at Roger Dunn a couple years ago. Now they look pretty beat up, and I only use these clubs 2/3 of my rounds and practice. It looks like the previous owner just hit a couple rocks. The 4i probably from punching out under a tree and the 8i from hard pan or something like that? The grooves look pretty good. . .

Wouldn't worry about it -- did the clubs arrive like that? Do not show us a pic with such dirt. You can't tell the extent of the gouge when it's that dirty.

Wouldn't worry much about it. You'll rarely hit it there... :-$ center. That big of a gouge may effect spin, if you hit it right on the gouge.

Thanks everyone. The pictures were all from a decent way away so no close ups to really see details. And he aligned the clubs such a way that the two areas mentioned were hidden I did clean up one of the clubs and they look much better. I will clean the rest tonight

I use a gum like eraser that is available from Golfsmith or GolfWorks that will take off the dirt, which a nylon or other brush will not do, and clean up the stainless so it is new-like.
