Yesterday was opening day at my club ,, I shot 85 including two triple bogeys. I had a great time out there, nice to be back out there with my friends. I accept what the golfing gods hand me and hope to score better next time out ( this morning ).

All in all it's been almost five months since I teed it up and yesterday I certainly hit some good solid shots. When I did put myself in a good scoring position I failed ,, my irons shots with the shorter clubs 7 through wedge were pulled. Actually it was like a big sweeping draw, my natural shot is right to left but this big miss cost me at least five shots yesterday.

Any ideas guys ?? Thanks.

Could be a couple of things, but it sounds like you might be swinging too far out or possibly catching it a bit on the toe.

My suggestion is to start a member swing thread so people can see what's going on in your swing. It's not easy to diagnose swing flaws through text alone.

Find the low point of the swing and make the ball is positioned there? I found I was playing the ball a little too far forward for my swing. Don't know if that is what might help you, but I hope so. Best, -Marv

Like @MarvChamp posted. I can hit that pulled shot with shorter clubs when I get lazy, forget to pay attention, and play the ball a little too far forward.

It's usually just a small bit too forward, but enough to miss my target area to the left.

Of course an 85 after a long layoff is still pretty good. I'd chalk up those mishits to rust.

I agree with @Patch.  I hit pulls, primarily, when I play too far forward (not that it takes a lot). I have done other things that generate pulls as well.

My solution is not to concentrate on what I did wrong but to go back and work on what makes a good shot for those irons. I especially do that when in the middle of a round.

Fought this exact scenario last year and worked on it over the winter. It seems my "stacking and tilting" with the driver carried too much into my iron swing. EXCEPT, I wasn't really 'stacking and tilting', I was on my heels and way too open at the shoulders. Forced the path to come in a hair too much from the outside and led to a pull. also may have put in too much shaft lean trying to 'get at it'.

I regrouped, set up in a 'neutral' setup and stance with normal lean and... pulls went away. more or less.. It will pop back if I get a bit lazy, but I worked at developing the muscle memory and getting my weight shifting correctly..

Good Luck..

I don't hit many pulls, but when i do its usually a combination of aligning right and swinging left. In general thats the biggest fault in my ballstriking, but i usually hit a block from that. I see alot of higher caps hitting pulls and slices mostly because they are spinning out with their shoulders and end up swinging with a "over the top" path
