There will be a lot of turnover.  Many of the employees here in Orlando will opt out of the move.

Would be interesting to see if they adjust their (already very low) compensation to entice more to move versus just rehire up there.

I’d be very surprised if very many are even offered the opportunity to move.

One of the business advantages to such a move is the ability to consolidate and eliminate duplicate positions.

Unless someone is in a highly skilled position, or relatively senior management, they’ll likely be given a token separation package, a kiss on the cheek and that’s about it.

Yup.  I'm sure all the behind-the-scenes riff raff can be let go and just go with what they have in place up there.

I think this will be the beginning end of the Golf Channel as we have known it.  Things change, media is changing.  PGA Tour will have more options for viewership/sponsorship.

Not all employees.  At least I wouldn’t think so.

I’m not talking about the “talent”...

I think most people are talking generally about the "talent." People don't think about the janitor in times like this - he's just a janitor. Menial labor stuff.

I wonder how much revenue its internet presence makes. GolfNow, GolfPass, all that. That's Golf Channel right? I remember at one point, it offered individual online instruction where you pay and send in videos. That's gone.

The websites are a total turnoff. Full of ads, like on tv.

I used to work there occasionally. Not as an employee - they were a client of ours.

I also used to think I wanted to work there.  Then I did, then I changed my mind.  It's probably a fine place to work for Brandel Chamblee.  Not so much glory otherwise, it's a grind and salaries were rather low compared to similar positions in other companies because everyone (golfers, anyways) wanted to work there.

Huh.

The talent probably represents less than 20% of the workforce.  I’m more concerned about the other 80%.  Even the janitor.

That was my initial thought also.   The on-air personalities may have a contract which would make the move easier but the behind the scenes people are the people that will be disparaged.

I’m not, and I said I think most people are talking about the talent. On-air, producers, etc. A janitor is a janitor. He can janitor for someone else. It’s not exactly a high skill job or a high paying one.

Of course the janitor isn’t going to move. What’s the sense in talking about that?

I don't think anyone will disparage them. Why would they?

The NLU Podcast has Lisa on today, and early reports are that Lisa hasn’t got very much here. Not like she hinted at.

I’m only 15 minutes in right now, though, and those reports are from others who are further along than I am.

Here is a clip and a link:

Lisa didn’t get to host the NCAA in 2019 at her alma mater in her hometown, and she thinks that’s “directly” related to something that she goofed up in August with Brandel Chamblee. According to her, his reaction was “to wave his hands around and act like he couldn’t believe she was screwing up this strokes gained graphic” (paraphrased) during a Golf Central. It was the “fourth or fifth incident” with Brandel and she implies that he’s not a good person, that he treats people badly.

She “laid into” one of her bosses (Marc Summers?) after that, in December 2018, when she saw that scheduling email. Her, someone else, and this Marc/Mark person were apparently yelling at each other for awhile that day, and her assignments were minimized after that.

    • The MTB Prime and Prime X had issues with the cover being too soft and getting cut too easily. They said it was more prevalent in the Prime than the Prime X which I found odd because that was the exact opposite of my experience.
    • Day 120 - Played 18; much better than yesterday. Miss right now is off the heel of the club, so I need to sort that out.
    • Today we played Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, NH. Course was in great shape but my game didn't show up. I will say I pitched and chipped fairly well but almost everything else was very hit or miss. Cost myself a lot hitting an in play drive with pulling my approach shots maybe 85% of the time. Finally figured out I had been swaying most of the round. Only took me until 13 to figure it out. Used what felt like a much more centered turn and the ballstriking improved. 18 tomorrow using a 2 man scramble format. Just looking to contribute. Been a blast though.
    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part.
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
