Understanding the Word "No"

34 members have voted

  1. 1. Bob Rotella and others say that, to your mind, there is no difference between "don't hit it in the water" and "hit it in the water." Do you agree?

    • Yes, I agree: my mind or body hear "hit it in the water" in both cases.

    • No, I disagree: my mind/body differentiates between the two.

Is "reverse psychology in reverse" just psychology? :-P

Welp, that is the meat of the matter isnt it?... I have never managed to internal talk myself into a better swing or a better result. If I'm playing shitty golf, it's because I'm making physically shitty swings. End of story.

Back in the day, it worked for Mark Fidrych of the Detroit Tigers.    His talking to the baseball helped him to the Rookie of the Year award in 1976.   (I'm sure his pitching helped some too!)

That wasn't psychology.  That was friendship with a baseball.  The "Bird".  Bless his heart...

I really think it's just better to know your miss and play for your miss. It works better than fighting it.

I think pretty consistently, my bad shots are over-doing it away from the worst spots. Water left, rough right, and I end up in the rough right. Bunker left, long grass right, and I'll be long. I guess that means my answer to the poll is "no," but it's still kind of annoying.

You can but you would be playing the first hole all morning long... constantly aiming everything drastically right.  Circling the the green but never getting on it.  Until you shanked one, of course.

    • No rain while I was out (9am to 11:30am). Fairly pleasant for a late November day in the Mitten.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-25 Did the BAD Challenge and hit a bunch more other little shots. This was one of the closer shots.
    • 70 today. The number looks good but, the course is a par 67 (5,110 yards, 64.3/115.). While the 70 took quite a few good shots to achieve, I am not counting that as shooting my age.
    • Played our town’s executive course this morning. Everything is closing but for now Huron Hills remains open. #13 is shaped like an upside down backwards L (dogleg left). Only 231 yard par 4. Dogleg has a tree guarding the corner and a sand bunker guards the green for those cutting the dogleg. Tiny green. About 10 years ago or more I would try to cut the dogleg. The hole is so short that even if one tangled with the tree or was bunkered, par was likely and birdie was still on the table. Now in my 70’s, I just hit it straight and try to wedge it close for birdie. Today I screwed up and pulled my drive. I wandered around a bit when my ball was not in the bunker. Finally located it on the approach to the green. Almost chipped in and tapped in the 2 inches for birdie. Best unintentional shot of the week. 😲
