Hi all

I am getting a new Putter that's a done deal my mind is made up.  This will be my 5th Putter in 50 years of golf so i tend not to change them to often.

I was already to book a fitting but then read that some things changed with Edel and it got me a little spooked.  So should i be concerned or not.

Thank you in advance for you feedback

You should be concerned you like the putter so much you won't want to consider another one ever again. :-)

What changed with Edel?

They’ve discontinued their classic line of putters.

So when they bring them back again, they'll already have the name "classic"!  (Like Coca-Cola). How about "vintage"?

So, are Edel Putters still the way to go or should I look at something different?

They’re probably still the way to go. I wouldn’t think their fitting philosophy would have changed. I just don’t particularly like the look of the new lineup and I’m glad I bought mine when I did.

As long as they don't release their version of New Coke we're good.

Follow up.

I could not get a fitting scheduled, pretty bummed out about that.  But I did take my Bettinardi BB32 into the PGA Super Store and they cut the shat down to 35" and added a Golf Pride Tour SNSR Contour Pro putter grip to it.  I really like this grip and it breathed new life into my Betinardi.

I had 30 and 31 putts my first two rounds with this set up.  Both rounds i had 1 terrible first putt that left me with a 3 putt green.  But everyone was commenting how great my touch was on the green.

Still bummed about the Edel situation but for $24.00 I am pretty happy

I was going to get that exact grip put on my O-Works 1 in the next day or two. Did you go with the 104cc or the 140 cc?

At the PGA Store we had a pretty decent conversation regarding weight as my BB32 was counterbalanced.  The decision was to start with the 104cc and the idea was if I didn't like that we could either add weight into the shaft or go with the 140cc.

I do wish I had gone with the 140cc as I like how a counterbalanced putter feels in my hands.  I had been using my wife's putter that had 40 grams in the top.

Regardless, I really like this grip.  It gets both of my hands in the correct position consistently, I can feel when they are not immediately before even starting to move the putter.

@djake

Have you done the thing where you use a laser and a mirror to check where you aim your current putter?

No, I wish I had and would still like to.  The Pro at our Club even tried to set up a fitting for me and it just didn't work out.  He was highly intrigued by the entire process and was hoping to have the fitting there so he could observe.

Umm...do it yourself? I did it in my living room. Not the best of setups but better than nothing. Showed me that what I thought was straight was actually 17 inches out from ten feet

I used a piece of mirror that I broke off from one of my wife's pocket folding compacts, and a laser from a laser pointer. Taped the mirror to the face of the putter, had my wife hold the laser at the other side of the room while I set up trying to aim at the laser as she held it. Laser is reflected onto the wall behind her.

Okay, Edel has a pile of videos out there in the YouTube-verse.

This one is kind of a summary of their philosophy. It shows two things pretty quickly. One the "new" putter heads. and two the mirror with a laser thing. Enjoy.

You may find that you aim your current putter accurately, but you won't know (nobody does) until you verify with the laser.

Good luck!
