Golf Shoes - Meandering Thoughts and Questions

I've had a set of sketchers that I've been using for a couple of years and absolutely loved them. Just picked up a new set from Costco, and not entirely sold on them yet....Newer spiked sole is leading me to believe that they wont be as comfortable for walking, but to early to say just yet. I've worn FJ in the past, but the sketchers were SO comfortable that I haven't looked back...

I've been sporting New Balance shoes for several years now.
I play many rounds each year and rotate shoes pending on course conditions.
When it's wet, I'll wear the spiked shoes and wear the spikeless ones on days when the course is not sloppy.
I'll buy a couple new pairsduring the winter when they are on sale and rotate the older ones for winter play
Then I'll wear the older ones around the house when doing odd jobs before they hit the trash can.
Most new golf shoes can be worn as casual wear when out and about.

Believe it or not, I think I have more golf shoes than my wife 🙂
For years she would buy shoes and only wear them a couple of times because they hurt her feet.
I would just roll my eyes and would say "thoses look nice with your new outfit" 🙂

I currently have 6 pairs that I rotate thru.   That probably seems excessive but I do a lot of running/walking and my feet hurt so I try and mitigate that.   Two are only for dry conditions.  One because it’s mesh and the other because they are 7 years old but really comfortable (FJ M series).  Two are largely winter only for SC.  Linkswear and FJ pro tours which have really good water proofing.  And the last two are a pair of FJ sandals and a pair of Pumas.  The pumas are really old but we’re in a box I didn’t open for years after I moved so still in good shape.

I don’t know what the record is for the longest duration thread on TST but I figured, I started this thing, so I may as well add to it, almost 4 years later.

So, where was I? At the start of the golf season two years ago, I switched from the cheap Adidas Tech Response 2.0 spiked shoe to the spike-less Adidas 2SG SI. It had the three main features I wanted; comfort, waterproof and under $100. They have proven to be and still are, extremely comfortable when walking and the one-year waterproof guarantee has proven to be more or less accurate. In wet conditions, the fabric upper does develop a dark stain, but the dampness hasn’t penetrated to my foot, at least not yet anyway. It basically does what a golf shoe is supposed to do, provide stability when swinging the club, good traction and to top it all off, the tread, after two years and probably a hundred rounds, is still there…it hasn’t worn down hardly at all.

So, what’s my problem? Well, it’s kind of embarrassing, but in my advancing age, I’m developing a bunion on my right foot. It’s not one of those ugly bulbous things, and it doesn’t hurt, but it’s there. I think I need a little more room in the toe box so I’m considering going back to True. But…which one? I’m looking at the “Original 1.2” but I haven’t seen many reviews of them. My main criticism of the Original Trues I had many years ago was the nubs on the bottom wore down pretty quickly and I could feel every rock and pebble I walked over. Are they still like that? Other than the fact that my price limit is now around $130, my main prerequisites remain the same; comfort, waterproof and durable.

So, let’s keep this thread going. What’s the latest opinion on shoes?

I just recently bought two pairs of True, originals 1.2 and a lightweight pair which will have to wait until after Winter. 
Very comfortable, but they leaked at the hells, unusual design almost like they have a slipper inside at the back with a waterproof membrane. 
The leaked  outside of the membrane, but it eventually crept up into the shoe.

I’ve had them replaced, but I haven’t really had a chance to test them yet

I find any shoe I buy in wide has a tendency to last longer.
