"Where the f*** are you going?"

Instead of,

"I realise you have finished this hole and you would like to move on to the next tee but could you please wait another couple of seconds until I have a go at this 5' birdie. Thank you very much for your patience. Can I reset?"

I don't know.  I kinda like the first better.  That'll stop them in their tracks.  And if they stand behind you on the tee... "What the f*** are you looking at?!"

I don't seek out such players actively, but I'm glad I have played with them in the past.  One guy I used to play with would deliberately talk during my swing.  I hated it, but now when someone does it accidentally, it doesn't bother me, which I suppose is a good thing.  Plus, I'd hate to be paired with someone I decided I couldn't stand to play with during an important match.

A science teacher of mine was asked the intellectual difference between caveman and modern man, to which he replied,

You could substitute golfers with bad etiquette for cavemen.

Another thing I hate is how some golfers misinterpret some of the rules or are just plain cheating.

I would never pick up a ball in play for any reason, without first calling a playing partner to witness the procedure. Be it a tournament or just a bounce match.

Picking one up out of the rough and proclaiming, "Yeah its mine" drives me nuts. I love the ones who pick up my ball in the rough and say, "It's yours Juli" and drop it deeper into the grass. Funny they always replace it carefully when its their own ball.

I've tried telling them that every effort should be made to identify the ball before they do this and then mark, identify with minimum movement, and replace.

In reality what they do should be penalised, but forcing this makes you the baddy.

Another hate of mine, is the interpretation of the line of flight on a water hazard. There are many but one in particular leaves me seething.

I know what drop I would prefer. Again, any effort to correct this is met with disdain.

As many of you have probably guessed from this thread, I don't suffer idiots gladly.

I am of the opinion that its nice to be nice. I will nicely refuse to play with someone (they know who they are) and if you think that's rude, I'm sorry.

If a guy asks me out on a date and I politely refuse, am I being rude?

"Thanks, I'm honoured, but no."

It only gets tricky when the golfer or guy asks,

"Why not?"

Really! There's no nice answer to that rebuttal. I feel like saying, "I'd rather pull a tooth" but always give a friendlier reply,

"Can we please leave it at that."

I don't beat about the bush with these requests and I am pretty honest with my refusal without going into reasons. It is however dangerous territory and I honestly prefer to do it this way. I am not going to spend three to fours hours with someone that doesn't do it for me.

I've had girls say, "I don't think my boyfriend/husband would like that."  My follow-up line is usually something along the lines of, "Oh, no problem, bring him along."

I enjoy competitive golf over just knocking it around with my buddies.  I have to concentrate more in competitions.  I generally have no problem playing with anyone.  I don't care if you are scratch of a 30 handicapper.  If you tend to get obnoxious, I can fire that back also.  Hardly ever happens.  I play my own game and do not pay great attention to what others are doing.  I enjoy the game too much to limit who I will play golf with.

I play very competitively with my buddies and, maybe its me, there are very few tournaments that come close to this rivalry or enjoyment. Ideally I would play with this same group in every home tournament.

I must add that I do love my league games at home or away but they are mainly matchplay.

I just played in an event and was put off by one guy in our group before we even teed off. Players were put in Flighted Groups and due to COVID were would be paired the next day as well.  We were all in carts to begin with.  I find my assigned cart and the other guy had already put his bag in the back, the basket had his lunch/beverage bag and he had his coffee cup, water bottle and cigars in three of the four cup holders!   Let’s talk about his golf bag for a moment...it was so loaded with whatever, rain gear, towels etc I could barely get my bag wedge in.  But the cigars is what set me off.  I guess I don’t get how a person can just assume he can just do what he normally does on any typical golf day with no consideration for a person he hasn’t met knowing full well he has to share a cart.

so....I walked!   Cigar smelled like a camel!

I have never played in a group where a guy played music, but I did yesterday. I usually don’t play on weekends, but was invited to fill in. One guy had a speaker, and he kept it pretty low, but it could be heard. Another time, we were on #10, and I could hear music from #8 green, about 50 yards away. I usually play during the week, and I’ve never played in a group that played music. On top of that, the music was really bad.

I will have music at times but always ask the group if they mind and keep it low.
