For me, there aren't really enough details on the "one day events" to form any thoughts yet.

I don't even know what these statements in the article mean:

  •  "a new venture that will have the world's top golfers competing against each other in a non-green grass, stadium environment"
  • "Early thinking suggests the showdowns - which will be technology-forward and staged with a live audience"

Is this some sort of skills competition or something? Doesn't sound at all like a golf tournament.

I found a better article that explains stuff a bit better.....

the "one day" tournaments the first article was talking about would be a "indoor" set up, probably on a golf sim

As said, not really enough details. But I like golf the way it’s been for years. 18 holes, four day tournaments. I have zero interest in skills crap, indoor nonsense, hit the ball through the clown mouth, yada, yada. That’s just me. Hell the only part of ‘Big Break’ I really liked was the matches.

I really hope the tour doesn’t go for this money grab crap. The product will suffer. Will wait for more details.

Yes. Have you tried to watch televised golf lately? It’s horrible.

Nobody watches so they have to put in more advertisements to make their money back which drives more people away which means they have to put more advertisements in to make more money back. It’s a vicious bad cycle.

I would agree about the constant commercial breaks. I didn’t out 2 and 2 together with your statement. I saw it as caliber of play.

like others have said....not really enough information, but the idea could range anywhere between "fine" and "awful" for me.  If they want to set up something like a PGA All Star Game skills challenge outside of tour season, great.  I'd probably tune in for a little bit and not really care what happens.  If they want to take PGA Players to TopGolf and have some sort of competition outside the tour season, fine.  I'd probably watch....once.  As long as these are supplemental to the PGA Tour season, I don't care much either way.

But I really don't want to see 1-day events of any sort popping up as official tour events.

Nothing but gimmicks at this point. All this does is make the rich richer. Rory, being involved on the Advisory Committee, should be looking out for all members of the Tour, not just the elite.

I think having this shenanigan event or whatever it is, is just one idea. I think Rory looks out for the tour in whole. As does DLIII.

If the PGA Tour ceases to exist with inaction, then by preserving the PGA Tour he's doing just that.

I can fix that. It's called a DVR with a FF button on your remote. Cuts out the ads, dead air between shots, and those worthless, sponsored "updates" and "challenges".

No, that doesn't "fix" that, as my finger would get tired, as I'd constantly be hitting buttons (and then just missing a shot, having to go back a little bit to see it, etc.).

Televised golf sucks.

Fast forwarding doesn't "cut out" anything, either. It plays it back… just faster, while you have to remain super vigilant to not miss things.

Thats like fixing a broken arm with a band-aid.  Doesn't touch the root of the problem, and doesn't really make anything better.  Maybe it saves you a little time?  But in exchange it would take away the ability to watch anything live, and you still only get to see such a small amount of the actual shots on the course.  The coverage itself is what needs fixed

I do think the networks could do some tweaking to at least improve the broadcasting. They could probably let their money grip a little loose and not just riddle the broadcasts with so many commercials. And absolutely with no money lost they have to completely eliminate the talking heads segments. Nobody needs to see some unknown CEO or president chatter away about how important the tournament is. Get them off the viewing and let them babble.

    • I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.
    • Going one step stiffer in the golf shaft, of the same make and model will have minor impact on the launch conditions. It can matter, it is a way to dial in some launch conditions if you are a few hundred RPM off or the angle isn't there. Same with moving weights around. A clubhead weights 200-220 grams. You are shifting a fraction of that to move the CG slightly. It can matter, again its more about fine tuning. As for grip size, this is more personal preference. Grip size doesn't have any impact on the swing out of personal preference.  You are going to spend hundreds of dollars for fine tuning. Which if you want, go for it. I am not sure what your level of play is, or what your goals in golf are.  In the end, the golf swing matters more than the equipment. If you want to go to that level of detail, go find a good golf club fitter. ChatGPT is going to surface scan reddit, golfwrx, and other popular websites for the answers. Basically, it is all opinionated gibberish at this point.

    • Well the first advice I would give is to look at your swing. If you are swing out to in, it may be difficult to fix your misses with club adjustments. They would only be a bandaid. I use midsize grips because I have long fingers and I feel I have more control with them. I also have tinkered with shaft length and swing weight. But I know when I miss it’s because my swing was off.
