If that is the case, then Richard Sherman has given probably the best reason to ban what the Eagles have been doing on their short yardage plays. If they are good at it, then get better at stopping it. I am all for rules that are consistent between offense and defense if there is a safety issue, and if the situations are that similar.

A center’s neck isn’t as exposed as a long snapper’s and he’s not as defenseless.

I'm surprised more teams aren't doing it honestly. Seems like a very very high percentage way to get a yard or two.

The bit of it that really surprises me is that nobody else seems to have really been effective doing it. From what I understand, it isn't from a lack of trying either. Gotta give the Eagles some credit.

But, these Philly people can get right out of town with this "Brotherly Shove" nonsense. I'm not ever calling it that and will fight anyone who does.

I wonder why no one ever tried this before. Why not have one of your most dynamic players be the holder for PAT or FG? On normal plays, they can't be touched. So, there is no real concern for injury. Yet now the defense has to respect that he could pull it and go. Does this keep the defense from selling out on the edge to block FGs? I think this is pretty much a no brainer. They typically have great hands. It seems like a pretty simple skill to learn.

The Raiders fire their coach & GM then bench their $67.5 mill QB in favor of a rookie QB. All within 48 hours of losing to the Lions.

I guess losing to Detroit on Monday Night is just too hard for teams to handle.

The Davis family are incredibly impatient. That’s why they keep losing. Who would want to coach for them?

I first started watching the NFL in the eighties when it first came to UK tv, and finally I went to the Titans-Ravens game at London a couple of weeks ago for my first NFL game. The Tottenham stadium is fantastic, the atmosphere was great despite the game being only of average quality. The Titans were poor and Tannehill especially. Lamar was close to being good, so it was no surprise the Ravens are improving. IMG_4528.thumb.jpeg.1584a0333947f09f59be4c486d209662.jpeg

Except for three seasons where he had some injuries, in the 7 seasons where he started at least 13 games. He averaged 94 receptions, 1106 yards, and 6.3 TD's a season. He is on pace to add another one of those seasons this year. On pace for a HOF career? If he plays for 5 more years. He only needs to average 875 yards to end up 7th all time in receiving yards. Maybe top 20 in TD's.

I think it was a bad call. The defender was going towards his legs and the receiver dove down. He wasn’t head hunting. I saw it live. I wanted them to show the replay but they didn’t.

I say this statement with out having to play a sport trying to move at 4.5 sec 40 speed. With that said,

If the guy is off his feet, well before (at least 4 yards of difference), why are you lowering your shoulder to dive at their legs which are not even on the ground anymore.  Come on, I am going to say he was not going at his legs. He was lowering his shoulder for a big hit.

Screenshot 2023-12-17 at 3.41.52 PM.png

Screenshot 2023-12-17 at 3.44.47 PM.png

This is the image where I am like, WTF are you doing! Saying he is going for the legs is BS. He is just trying to hit a guy. The worst part is, he endangers himself by lower his helmet.

Screenshot 2023-12-17 at 3.45.39 PM.png

Like, are you even looking at where you are hitting. If you kept your head up instead of trying to spear a guy, who is not defenseless because he has no way to protect himself is just crap technique and bad football. LOOK at this! Just stupid play by the defender.

Screenshot 2023-12-17 at 3.47.26 PM.png

I know this is a violent sport, but to put yourself in danger to lay down a big hit. Sorry, this is just bush league BS. Sorry, anyone who wants to say otherwise, I don't care. I am not going to argue it. I am not going to be swayed the other way. You will not change my opinion on it. There is no FACT here. It is all opinion, and my opinion will be opposite of many people. You can love this crap and cheer on a huge hit. I for one think this play is dangerous on both the defender and WR. It is stupid for a defender to endanger himself to lay down a big hit. Imagine if the defender went motionless because he broke his neck. He didn't have to make this hit. I've seen plenty of players pull up. He decided not to.

How about defining it in terms of time rather than yardage, especially when two players running 15-20 MPH are headed toward each other (@ 35 MPH, it takes 0.2329 seconds).

Or…

Still on his feet to just leaving his feet (13 frames, 60 FPS = .22 seconds)

01.jpg

and just leaving his feet to being hit (another 0.22 seconds).

02.jpg

In other words, from when the receiver is on his feet to when he's actually being contacted is under half a second. If you can react like that, with your entire body, I don't know what kind of freak you are, but you're not Kazee.

Because that's how you tackle a guy.

Yeah, about 0.22 seconds before he makes contact, they left the ground. Yep. 😛

If the receiver was upright, he'd be hitting him around the waist, @saevel25.

Odd then that he hit the guy with his shoulder, isn't it? Even with the QB and the receiver opting to make himself defenseless?

I'd love to see what you can do in 0.44 seconds.

Facts:

  • < 0.5 seconds.
  • Would have hit him in the hips/waist area.
  • Hit first with the shoulder, not the helmet.
  • Your head is above your shoulders.

We don't have to imagine it — it basically happened to Ryan Shazier.

Kazee went low.

But I guess, despite a lifetime of being taught to hit the guy, and perhaps break up the throw, in < 0.5 seconds, he was supposed to instead decide to not only let the guy catch the ball, but to just sidestep (teleport?) somehow and tap him as he fell to the ground.

It's a bit naive to place all blame on the defender. QB a bit bone headed to throw the ball towards jail.

There are views on Youtube that show Kazee clearly lowering his shoulder AFTER Pittman was airborne. For better or for worse, they just won't allow these type of plays anymore. Ejection def bit over the top. I somewhat get why people are thinking NFL is headed towards flag football.

Not only that. They suspended him for the rest of the season.  I guess there is a track record on him. Guy is appealing it.

As a clumsy oaf that used to try to play hockey, I'm not sure what you wanted the man to do there. @iacas's quote from Mike Mitchell sums it up pretty well. The player was trying to make a play as he had been taught and it, unfortunately, turned out bad. Seen dozens of similar things in hockey where a guy intends to make a clean hit and things go wrong in fractions of a second.

The leagues are wise to try to protect players from serious injury, but there is always going to be these difficulties when games are inherently built on hard physical contact.

    • Day 10 (18 Mar 26) - two-fold session today, 1st - walked the back nine with 8 club setup plus a few extra holes on the front.  With the fewer clubs, had great opportunity to work on the approach process.  2nd - worked with the Jr Golf team at the local Christian school, helping them focus on course strategy - it’s a blast to see a kid get excited making the shot they envisioned.
    • Wordle 1,733 4/6* 🟩🟨⬜⬜⬜ 🟩⬜⬜⬜🟨 🟩🟨⬜🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
    • A bit of an update Set up - Less knee bed, more hip flex, weight feels more on the balls of my feet, and heels feel off the ground or lightly touching the ground. I have to check this from time to time. I like to squat too much and get my weight back. If I look at where my right pocket meets my shirt, that is over my ankles. It feels like I am on my toes.  Backswing - Feel like my left kneecap stays facing towards the ball, doesn't move. This controls my knees in the backswing. Which controls my hips. Lots of resistance feeling in the left leg, lots of stability here. The hands feel like they go in a bit, keeping them closer to my right hip, then hinge straight up. In reality the hands go straight towards the camera than in. I am trying to keep the hands from going out and rolling the club inside from A2 to A4. Mostly hinge from wrist and still feel like I keep my right elbow straighter. So, its hinge wrist, then left upper arm off chest. Elbow feels like it doesn't do much. The hinge and the club finish nearly the same time as my right arm retracts. So, it's not continuing on a ton here. I don't think I could overexaggerate enough how fast and the quantity of hinge I can do here.  Downswing - This is the drill I set up. I wanted to create a spatial target for my swing path. So, I added a 2nd foam ball. This one off my right foot, about 1-ft away from the shoe. I chose this position because if I stop the swing at the top then bring my right hands down to my pocket and turn from there, that ball would be in its path. I am trying to swing the club down and behind me to make that 2nd ball in the swing path to the actual ball. It won't, but it is a good visual. It really has helped me. I did it slow a few times, then I did one swing at like 70% and it looked pretty good.  Checkpoints A1 to A2 - Club travels inward a bit and hands travel inward and straight back. Club is outside the hands at A2.  A2 to A4 - Club hinges here and still stay on plane pretty well. At A3, the club is pointing inside the ball. Previously it was like 10+ FT outside the ball. Right elbow and right hands are in front of the chest more. A small nitpick here is, maybe the hip turn is a tad over what I want. Very very small nitpick here. Probably could have hinged a bit sooner and gotten the club up a bit quicker to finish the backswing. This was a slower swing, so timing is a bit off.  A4 to A6 - the club keeps tracking down such that the club pass just under my hands. The path misses the 2nd ball by a lot. I am trying to get the club down to hit it.  When the knees are square to the target line in the downswing. My hands are down at waist height and the clubhead is at shoulder height. while in recent swings with no shallowing, my hands are like up near my chest, the club head is like above my head. People talk about being stuck behind them, I was stuck in steepness.  At impact, I could be more open with the hips if I used my left leg better, more work to do on that.  My right elbow and hands are on my trail side. I don't have to stop turning to get my hands and clubs through to hit the ball.  Overall, pretty good. I just need to rep this and continue to work on getting that left leg straighter.  Warning Label - The LED lights have a strobe effect due to the slow-motion camera.
