Yeah I see that. Imagine looking through binoculars backwards and you get my perspective.

Yeah, I can see how that might be a little hard to read for you, or anyone for that matter. The modern smart phone screens are really high resolution. . .

Hi all...just joined. I'm not really sure about my handicap. I've shot 90 a couple times but normally its probably around 100 to 105.  I'm 31 now and only started playing about 3 years ago. I took a long break from golf for close to a year now  (played a couple rounds but havent practiced at all). Now im trying to get back in and really improve my game. From the very beginning of when I first started playing I have been a long hitter. Perhaps its because ive played ice hockey my whole life or am just naturally athletic. My biggest problem is just consistency.. I can hit almost every shot in the book but I'll usually blow up completely on 2 or 3 holes in a round which will destroy my score. Other than that I'm usually par or bogey on most holes. I just recently got a laser range finder for my birthday so I've made a concerted effort to really nail down the distances I hit my clubs.

Driver: not really sure on an average because I hardly ever get a shot that I feel like I really hit. However, I do know i have hit one over 320 on the course once
3 wood: probably about 260
3 hybrid: not quite sure, cant hit hybrids consistently, usuallly either go with 5i or 3w

4 hybrid: not quite sure, cant hit hybrids consistently, usuallly either go with 5i or 3w
5 iron 210 - 220
6 iron 190
7 iron 175
8 iron 165
9 iron 155
Pw 150

sw 125

I'm pretty sure I need to get a gap wedge because of the huge gap between my PW and SW. I'm one of those golfs that can paint a 10 circle with my SW thru 7i but once I start getting above those my consistency drops dramatically. The only exception being my 3W.  Besides my low irons I hit that really well and will almost never use my driver during a round because of how far I hit my 3W.

I normally place an either almost completely straight iron shot or slight pull-fade.  My most frequent miss with my driver is a huge slice. I'm hoping after a few more times at the range I can really figure out how far I hit my driver and hybrids with what I believe is a well struck ball.

Just spent two hours with a rough version of a trackman.

6 iron averaged about 168-173 carry. Got it to 182 swinging out of my shoes.

Driver about 240-245 carry. 256 swinging for the fences. After pull hooking a few.

7 wood  195

5 iron    170

7 iron    145

9 iron    120

PW       105

SW         90

60W        70?

I rarely hit a full shot with my 60 degree wedge. Unless I'm trying to hit a high shot I'd rather hit a half shot with my SW.

Tell us your secret as 24 handicap how you hit the little white pill 275+ ???

I think you all make good points. I've been told that the reason why  I can hit the ball far is because I'm  6'4", so I have a lot of leverage. I'm pretty much the same build as Dustin Johnson.  Im athletic but it does not translate into golf very well for me.  I can get good distances because I have a coach, but even he has a hard time keeping me on plane consistently. I am starting to concentrate more on accuracy because distance does not mean any thing if you can't score, which is my main problem.

That's true, it doesn't take much to shoot a double 5 times a round. However, if he's averaging 275 yards he should easily shoot better than an 10. Average includes trees, slices, hooks and stuff. If I averaged 275 I would be right down the fairway or first cut and be a single digit easily. . .even with my less than average putting skills.

EDIT: Just reread his post. With stats like those and hitting forged, he should be scratch. . .he must have forgotten the decimal point and the + sign in front of the handicap. Those are distance stats of a +2.4 golfer.

I'm long because I'm 6'4"  athletic and strong but I'm terrible at scoring

For me my clubs stack up like this:

Driver - 285+ish

3 Wood - 250+

2H - 235

5i - 210

6i - 200

7i - 180

8i - 165

9i - 155

PW - 140

52* - 125

56* - 105

60* - 85

I did a lot of work on my body.. core, legs, glutes, back, etc this winter to get my numbers up...don't really care about the irons because they are fine where they are, if I need to hit longer, I usually club up and just swing softer anyways.  Its my driver that I am working on getting the controlled swing speed with it up.  I went from 110-112 last year to 116-119 this year so I am hitting my driver a lot further and more consistent this year as compared to last year.

I will carry 14 clubs, but it's usually another 60* wedge with a lower bounce I use for big flops if I need or if I'm feeling that one is working better out of the sand that particular day. I sometimes carry a 1H which I hit about 250, but my 3 wood covers that distance so there is no use for the 1H.

I don't think most people intend to exaggerate how far they hit it. I also think you should give distances for good/normal shots not the outliers like super long or short shots. My irons are pretty strong for loft, but to be honest most modern irons are pretty strong anyway.

I don't think people intend to purposely exaggerate their distances, but they do tend to say that their farthest distance with each club is their average. I mean yeah I have hit a 7 iron to about 180 once or twice but that doesn't mean it automatically becomes my new average for my 7 iron. I don't think most people realize that they are doing it but they do it nonetheless.

Dr - ("A" Flex) 230-240

3wd - 215-220

5wd - 190-200

4 Iron - 180

5 Iron - 170

6 Iron - 160

7 Iron - 150

8 Iron - 140

9 Iron - 130

W ------  120 - 125

GW ----  105 - 115

SW ----   90 - 100

These are consistent yardages that I can play from with confidence. I'm old school and still use a 1980 Hogan Director Iron set. I've tried new(er) clubs, but the yardages where all over the place. Had a set of Wilson Staff Fat Shafts and I was hitting the PW over 150 at times. Super major gap between that wedge and the SW. Also tried TM Burner 2.0 and again yardages were like a lottery ticket. Like Dirty Harry said, "A man has to know his limitations"...........

I just sit here and shake my head and think "I've got a lot of work to do" because most of you are hitting three to five clubs longer than me. I'm hitting a 5 iron what some hit a wedge or 9 iron, I hit a hybrid or fairway wood and see some are just using a 5 iron. Then I think of what I could do if I had that kind of distance. Oh well, it's okay, I still enjoy the game.

I am trying to increase my swing speed.  You had some nice gains in swing speed, what type of training were you doing?  Thanks.
