Like others have stated, distance is not the key to scoring well.  Don't get me wrong it definitely helps get you into the "Scoring " clubs, but accuracy is king.  Most of my bad rounds come from inaccuracy from the TEE with the driver.

Going to try and track all of my tee shot distances during my round, and report back averages (mostly for driving clubs).  I know you will all be on the edges of your seats, but just try and contain your excitement for a few hours.

Thanks,

Brandon

So my averages for my round today:

Driver 255

3w 256

Those snap hooks can really bring an average down quickly. I really drove it poorly today as evinced by the fact I only hit 6 fairways and even most of my long drives were poorly struck (low draws that barely got 15-18 feet off the ground.  I hit the 3w great all day, and probably should have just hit it more often.  The one 3w that I hit 279 was with the wind and is an outlier, as is the drive I hit 300 which was pure luck as I caught the perfect part of the fairway that slopes down and to the left to compliment the low hook I hit.

I can usually get more out of each club with a perfect swing, but that isn't too often. I'm still kicking around the high 90's each round despite that one glorious day where I shot an 89 :)

Everybody should use Tour Edge Exotics fairway woods!  My distances from 7i to driver are all about 25 yards short of yours.  But my 3W averages maybe 260-265 off the tee and I put a solid percentage out to 275.  Off the deck I can still get it out to at least 250.  That club is ridiculous!

I got my first chance to hit a long-drive club:  Tiny and solid 4 degree bang golf head, super long harrison XXX shaft.  Smash factor was 1.46, usually drivers for me are around 1.48.  What a hard driver to hit.  267 carry, 307 total, flight time was like 4 seconds, maybe 50 feet off the ground.  Too much club for this man.  It was only $116 in the used section, but I would find no actual use for it IRL, so I let it lie.  Clubhead speed was limited, mind you, because I wasn't in a place where I could walk out into the range yelling after every shot.

Nice.  Seems to be a lot of high handicap golfers that hit their clubs like PGA Tour professionals.

What about my distances are so wrong? If it is about the driver i didnt do carry I did how far it goes. I put on there my drive would roll out to about 280 but I put a real good drive would go upwards of 300. When most of the time I have a wedge into a par 4 I am pretty sure I am hitting it as far as I say. I can also remember specific moments where I have played like 300 yard par 4's and didn't expect to reach it and BOUNCED it through the green, not rolled. Being a 15 handicap has very little to do with distance. In fact distance is causing problems. I was striking my 9 iron 160 and over all the greens when usually thats my 145 club. I've lately tried giving up distance and even gone to more spin oriented balls. If its about my 60 going 100 or anything like that its because Ive been playing hockey forever and striking down on the ball is something im actually good at.

Nothing is wrong with your distances, to my knowledge.  I've never seen you play.

No worries. Just surprising to come back to this thread 3 weeks later to find i was being called a liar. I was just trying to find people with comprable distances to mine to see what they hit a hybrid as i just got a new club I've never used before. Just trying to get an idea

Never called anyone a liar, and fully explained my comments.  Again I apologize for offending.

    • I know you guys were discussing this like a year ago. But, ironically I just had this discussion with my brother-in-law. We literally just did one of these. I'd always used the "Slow-Cook, Rest, and Sear" Method. But my bother-in-law was convinced the "5-Min/lb, 500 degree" method was the way. So, we gave it a go. I have to say it came out great.  I have a 25 year old, electric oven, GE brand... Not sure if that matters, but it came out great. ... Of course we stressed that nobody was to open the oven.   I don't make these all that often so, I'm not sure if I can fully recommend one method or the other, because without doing a Pepsi Challenge, I'd say both ways come out great. 👍😁👍
