Eagle with an asterisk.

That is exactly what I was thinking.

Eagle with an asterisk.

Can't we leave Barry Bonds out of this conversation please?

Ok, let me pose this question a different way ... and mind you this is all for fun and discussion purposes ... Let's say we were talking about a par three and this is a hole-in-one situation ... let' say normally it's a 175 yard par 3 and we were forced to tee off on the 125 yard tees ... would this still be a discussion? Or would it be a hole-in-one with an "*"

I think a one shot hole that's modified to play as a one-shot hole is a different situation than a three-shot hole that's modified to play as a short two-shot hole.

In other words, not the same situation at all. Maybe if you took a 275-yard par three and converted it to a 125-yard par three (the same 150 yards), we'd be able to talk... maybe.

You can call it an eagle if you wore a skirt and used the women's scorecard for the entire round. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I am surprised you asked people for their opinons, which are just that -- opinions -- and then want to argue that most people disagree with you.

I didn't realize you just wanted affirmation of your eagle. Sorry, here it is:

i'm going to say it was a birdie as well. it's not a par 5 if it's less than 475 yards in my personal opinion. i know you probably really want to call it an eagle - i have a very similar story. there was a par 4 i played, and they had moved the tee boxes forward for reasons i can't recall. anyway, it made this par 4 only about 230-240 yards long. i hit a 3 wood onto the green and then made a 1-putt, but i just couldn't bring myself to call it an eagle (even though it would have been my first). to be fair to myself, i had to go ahead and pretend like it was just a really long par 3 and i'd made an excellent birdie. i even changed the par for the course from 70 to 69 on my scorecard to keep things in order.

Give yourself a half point for that one

So if anyone asks how many eagles you've had in your life you can say 3 and a half. And if someone asks how can you have half of an eagle, tell 'em.

I agree with the poster that said put an asterisk on it.

My home course does not have a par 4 under 350 yards, so bragging about an eagle on a hole like that is a bit weak.

Still a nicely played hole though.

If you shot a 7 on that hole would you call it a double or a triple? Just sayin'

Any par 5 where you're hitting SW on your second and you haven't driven the ball 415... eh... sounds like a par four.

My question would be, is the posting season open in your area? If so, I's say that lends a little more credence to your "eagle". Either way, congrats on what sounds like a very well played hole.

I say write it down as a Chicken Hawk. Bigger than your run of the mill birdie, but not as big as an eagle.

Is golf a Gentleman's Game of Rules or Opinions? If the ball moves at address, do we count the stroke or email each other for opinions? If you (1) played from the course's designated teeing ground for that hole on that particular day and (2) the course had not changed it's par status from 5 to a 4, then your 3 is an Eagle (God Bless America). Rules are just that, Rules. Do tour players that make birdie on a par 4 that the members play as a 5 say they got an eagle or birdie? What ever the Course/Club designates as par for a hole, that is it, doesn't matter what we think. You still had to hit three quality shots to seal the deal. Life is too short, enjoy your moment in the sun. .... jmoc

I wasn't arguing, merely keeping the discussion going here ... but because of the picture in this post, and your wording around it ... +1 I laughed my ass off!

Yes, posting season is open, and this course is playing normally in all other areas on the course ...

Well, you're not supposed to be able to hit a sw into the green for your second shot on a par 5, but, who's gonna care that you count it as an eagle?! You took 3 shots on a par 5, call it that and be happy with it. Just keep it in the back of your mind that you've got an eagle under your belt and you can make the shots. Good for confidence. Congrats!

If you shot bogey and put down a par I bet 90 % of the posters on this thread would say you cheated yet those same posters are OK with you cheating yourself ???

The rules are the rules. If the hole is a par 5 it's a par 5 unless otherwise indicated by the club. Sometimes the rules work in your favor.

I would however right down a note to myself about the yardage.

Kelly
