5i because I can hit it dead straight (or with an intended draw or fade when needed) about 175 yds and 3 of our Par 3's are in that range. I use an 8i for all my chips, etc. and who doesn't need a putter.

You're taking a 3/4 swing with that 5-iron, right!?!?

Yeppp ..... you remembered well ..... I never swing irons full, mostly 3/4 to 7/8 max. But when I really rip a 5 iron it might carry about 200 yds, loosing a lot of accuracy, mostly ending way left......

I remembered you used to list an i3 2-iron in your sig, so I know you've got some pop in your swing!!

I traded the 2i in when I bought the MP Fli-Hi 18* last week, but I still have a Callaway 1i and 2i shovels and I don't mind using these at all ...... in fact I don't like hybrids and fairway woodies (toooooo difficult for me ..... somehow).

On the par three around me I would bring a 5i, 51* (Aw), putter. This sounds fun though, I think I'll try it after my clubs get lengthened Monday.

2013 Goal:

Single digit handicap

3w 7i 54*

I too would putt with the wedge, I've done it pretty successfully for fun in the past

In the bag: I'm not a complete nike fanboy.. I just happened to pull some strings and get fitted at the oven
Driver| SQ Machspeed 8.5
Fairway Woods|3,5| SQ Machspeed fairway woods
Hybrids |3,4 iron| SQ Machspeed hybrid
Irons|PW-5| Split Cavity Forged IronWedges| 54 bent to 53 and 58...

I play mostly 9 holers, max about 300 yards, so the trusty 7i, SW, and putter would git 'er done — my 3 favorite clubs.

Except that one beyotch of an executive nine-hole twisted links course, where I complement the setup with the Titleist remote-controlled, guide-by-wire amphibious ball with the mini-cam installed to help a little.

I swear turtles, frogs, carp, and herons have stolen my balls on this course.

I play in a league for work and tomorrow we're having the annual three club tournament. Obviously, you're allowed only three clubs for the round. The course isn't super long so I'm pretty certain the longest club I'm taking is 4 iron. After that, I can't decide if I should take a wedge and putter, or if I should take something like a 7 or 8 iron and a wedge and just putt with the wedge?

I'm thinking about 4, 7/8, wedge at this point. Lets here your reasons for or against this strategy.

I think it comes down to how much sand do you think you're going to get into? If not that much (especially since you're going to be more accurate with the 4 instead of a driver or a wood) I don't see why you'd really need a wedge. You'd want something for the intermediate distances so it's up to you whether you want to try to take shorter, less powerful swings with a 4 down to where your wedge length is; or a 4, 7/8 down to putting. Putting is so key, I don't really think not having a putter with you is going to help you more than it'd hurt you overall.

If you are any good at all with putting with the wedge, I'd go 4,8,W

Another thing to consider
How are you at putting with hybrids?

If you like hybrids, I'd consider 19*-23* hybrid, 8 iron, wedge

I don't know what your go to clubs are and how well you hit each club, but judging by your handicap, I would go with a 7-Iron, Putter, and maybe like a 3-Hybrid for Par 5's and longer Par 4's.

Career Bests:

18 Holes--80 @ Carroll Meadows Golf Course(+9)
