He handled the pressure well on the homestretch after faltering a little in the beginning. Nonetheless he made it when it counts.

Congrats.

Total score: 276 4 under par.

R1: 69
R2: 64
R3: 70
R4: 73

Gotta feel for Barnes, Mickelson and Duval though. Three separate stories but all worthy.

I thought he was gonna cave, but both of them pulled it together eventually. He kept his cool, and deserved the win. It woulda been nice to see Phil finish strong though :(

Absolutely - Would have liked to see any of them win it. We won't see Phil for a while. Hopefully see more of Barnes and Duval.

Glover took advantage of what he was given. Cant fault him for that. He took down some titans today.

What a disappointing finish. He deserves it and he could probably use the win more than Duval or Mickelson but its just such a boring result. Barnes would have been a much better story.

Faith in humanity: -1.

A quote from Kris
...is that college bball really isn't "lower tier". The better teams have their rosters filled with guys who could play in the NBA. hell, guys used to come straight from high school to the NBA. I really don't think there's much of a difference skill-wise between the two.

Excuse me for enjoying the big story. I will never understand humanity as well as you. Glover is a boring winner, well deserved, but boring.

Goshdarnit! I played 18 holes this morning, come in and Phil's making a charge... then a couple bogies and Lucas Glover wins. Good for Glover, I'm happy for him and all, but I sure would have like to see Phil win, and Duval would have been my next choice.

What a screwy open all in all... the whole thing was kind of odd with all the rain delays and the late finish. It just didn't feel right.

I really don't know much about Glover, but I guess we'll start hearing more now. On to the British and PGA.

Got a comment and a few questions...

First thing - congrats to Glover. It would have been so easy for him to blow it like Barnes did, but he kept himself in check, got his composure on the back 9, and held on for a much better finish than I think anyone could have predicted. Personally, I hope to see him contending throughout the rest of the year. Also, congrats to Ricky Barnes. He played well all week and deserves some credit for posting scores that some of us could only dream of at one of the toughest courses in the country.

I guess I'm not all that familiar with Ricky Barnes, I know he had a lot of success as an amateur, but what would have made him so much of a better story? I can understand it if we were talking about Phil (resisted the urge to call him FIGJAM ) or Duval, but maybe I missed something that would make Barnes any more "interesting" of a champion than Lucas Glover.

My second question may belong in the equipment forum, but was that one of Nikes' prototype putters that Glover was using? It didn't look like anything they have out right now. The wierd thing is, to me, it almost looked like a Scotty with a swoosh on the back of it. Of course the video quality wasnt the greatest for me, so I could be way off. I know it wasnt an SC, I just kinda thought it resembled one.

My final question is this: how do you all think Barnes and Glover will do for the rest of the season? Do you think that performances like we saw over the last few days might give one or both of these guys the confidence boost that they needed to make them long term contenders? I know this is all purely speculative, but I'm curious to see what everyone thinks.

It was just another Ping anser style putter, as made by

Ping (originally) Odyssey Taylor Made Yes Scotty Cameron Bettinardi Nike Byron etc. etc.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

i think glover will definitely feature in a couple more events as he has been in contention a couple of times already this year (Quail Hollow (T2) and the Buick Invitational (T3)) and he is a quality golfer but i think Barnes will just fade away sadly as he has a really awful swing but i hope im wrong about him!

I felt bad for Double D, David Duval. I have been rooting for this guy every time he is in a tourney. He got two horrible breaks today, first hitting it into the soft sand under the lip of the bunker, and later that mud ball that went left harder than an exit ramp. After all that he could have given up easily but battled back with 3 straight birdies. Good for him, I hope to see a lot more if him come Sunday afternoon broadcasts.

The real time blog on Sand Trap was excellent. I was watching on TV and checking the blog before having to leave for my tee time. The comments and insights were enjoyable. My first time to "Blog/Watch" a golf tournament. Thanks for doing it.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
