Wow, this is a bigger lie than the original post in this thread.

How on earth do some of you believe this stuff when you read it?

I played once with an 89 year old former bowler who was golfing for his first time. He had to keep one hand on his walker, but he would swing the club with the other hand and hit 325+ yard drives right down the middle of the fairway. (I am not sure if it was a rule violation for him to be up there with his walker. Personally, I think it gave him an unfair aiming advantage.) Anyway, when he would putt, he would put on one of those bowling wrist devices and hook that ball right into the 1-3 pocket for a birdie almost every time. Anyway, when we were done, we added up his score and it was 300 (Oops, I mean 12 under par.)

I know it is hard to believe... I dont think I would believe it myself if I hadnt seen it with my own two eyes.

Were the greens embedded in Crop Circles perhaps?

I'm sorry but if one is going to make such a claim, one would do well to produce reasonably convincing corroborating evidence. Otherwise one is going to be met with profound skepticism to say the least. Gotta love threads like this though - most entertaining. This one gets more and more like a certain Monty Python skit every minute. Anyone know which one? A little birdie tells me tulefog knows.

Personally I don't believe anyone when they tell me their handicap. I assume the number told to me is the best ever score the person ever achieved. With higher handicappers I assume its their best score with some mulligans thrown in for good measure.

I don't have evidence, and I do have a sense of humor and am a skeptic myself. This happened almost 15 years ago so the details are hazy. Hell I don't even remember the name of the course except that it was near farmington, ct. And the two under was in 9.

I guess I should've known better than to post a seemingly unbelievable comment. I expected to be doubted. That doesn't make it any less true though. Sorry if this offended a few of you people that work to make use of the little talent you have, like me. I have seen many things in golf, including two unreal hole in ones... straight from a highlight reel. One of the rocks on the shore of a lagoon, and another off a lateral tree. Shots that I would have fathomed impossible.

A hole in one like that is possible with a fair amount of luck. There is no way to play 2 under par for the first time in your life with luck.

Wasn't luck. he was a natural, that's all there is to it. I remember he lef the his shots within a flagstick to half a flagstick and then would miss the 3 foot birdie putts.d

Complete garbage.

It's totally possible to believe the hole in one stories, because they relate to luck, but to shoot under par even on a par three course, first time round is not possible. I would love to see how these "naturals" (who have all played hockey or baseball, as if that means anything) cope when they short side themselves with a bunker between them and the hole or have to play out of rough near the green. As for the 9.6 after a couple of months, well that just shows the ridiculous nature of DIY handicaps. I want to see one of these players post a link to a legitimate national golf union (or equivalent) site where these scores are posted in competition with a marker. You'll never see it. I guarantee it.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

It is ok to name drop. Who was the hockey player?

To me, the hockey player story just shows that most people have no idea what it really takes to shoot 2 under. It is the same way when you hear people say, "Oh I usually hit my drives 290-300." They have no clue what a 300 yard drive looks like or what it takes to get it there. It's not that they are lying, it is that they truly believe they do it because they have never checked the yardage.

There are MANY, MANY, MANY gifted athletes out there that play hockey, basketball, baseball, football even GOLF!!!! They are not going to go out and shoot 2 under in their first round ever swinging a golf club....I don't care if it was 9 holes!

    • Day 24: did a stack session. Worked a bit on downswing feels during breaks.
    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
