Yeah, Andy Williams sang a good tune and I certainly do love Christmas, but golf in the Fall is absolute Heaven. Nice, pleasant breezes, a slight chill in the air, the changing colors of the leaves. It all adds up to pure joy on the course. Nothing compares, not even a beautiful girl.

My favorite thing in the world is a round of golf when it is in the high-50's/low-60's, followed by a hot toddy. Then comes the snow and kind of ruins it until April.

Also, Fall brings hunting season and I do love to kill stuff.

I love golfing in the fall - the courses are in top condition (except for the aerated greens and trying to find your ball in all the leaves) and the realization that the PGA tour isn't in my future lowers the expectations and the blood pressure. The handicap drops into the single figures just in time to take a 7 month break. Baseball is winding down, football is in full swing, the puck drops on another NHL regular season (starting in Sweden and Finland this season) right away. Its best time to be a golfer and a sports fan in general.

And did I mention the FedEx and the President's Trophy?

I don't like when it drops below 20ºC. From 20-25 is a nice temperature. In the fall we also get more rain and wind. Need more clothes to stay warm and the courses are getting worse. Lots of rain means less frequent grass cutting.

Not sure where you guys are but I WALKED 18 TODAY and almost died. Sweat was DRIPPING off of me. Now I'm enjoying a cold beverage glad to be alive. I played terrible but had a birdie on #14 so that made my day.

I dont like fall - ball flight is getting shorter and shorter - when it rains the course aint drying out no more and your shots just have no roll - and then all these leaves that make finding wayward shots so much more difficult...

And yeah the weather after all - if you get lucky - you get 20° C weather and sunshine - thats the optimum - if you get unlucky you have 10° C/rain/wind that makes you think about getting your winter gloves out - not cool....

And what about the upcoming depression that there is no golf for the next 6 months?

So for me - not much to like in fall.

Fall is absolutely my favorite time of the year in general and in particular for playing golf. There is nothing like a cool crisp morning air and the temperature is in the 60's (~15 C to 20 C).

And the sky is dark blue due to the sun being low in the southern sky. And of course the colors!

How is that possible? We are getting Canadian Artic air and the temperature has dropped to 45 F (7 C) here in Denver area. And you guys are getting heat wave???

What team plays at TPC Boston? That's awesome! I played at The Country Club (Brookline HS) and that was really nice.

Golf is my favorite season too. The cool weather, the colors, Baseball playoffs, Football. With all these pluses, I could live with the loss of distance.

Personally, i would rather play with the temps in the 60's and sideways rain than play in the mid-90's and humid...Must be the Irish in me.

Fall in New England is over-rated. You can golf for what? Another month? Then its absolute shit-snow and ice for 5 months. And screw skiing/snowboarding in the NE. It's horrible. Ill trade year round warm water surf and perfect weather - women over a great day riding at stowe any day of the week. hahaha. Suckers. Have fun in the crappiest weather ever for the next 7 months.
Sorry. Im just excited to finally get out of NY

I like everything except the leaves on the ground. I've lost more balls underneath leaves than I care to remember.

That is so true. I even lost many balls when I hit in the fairway. So many leaves, I couldn't tell which one it was under.

But still, I love the fall weather. Something about that cool crisp morning air just make you feel alive!

It was almost 90 here today, I wouldn't say fall is here quite yet in Southeast NC. We don't worry about leaves in the fairway much here, but pine needles in the rough will hide a golf ball quickly.

Take the good with the bad though, here in a month, most people will be planning their next season for golf while I'll be playing pretty much year round, except for the end of January and February, it gets really cold (around 40F) during that time.

Sunny and 80˚ here in Vancouver Island today.

Maybe your cold air has something to do with the fact you are a mile above sea level and the fact it is fall.

    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
