Anyone enjoying the drink tonight?

Danny Noonan

Recommended Posts

Ordinarily, I only have a drink or two on Fridays or Saturdays, but today was a LONG day with two kids bouncing off the walls.

I am celebrating the quiet in my home with a small glass of Lagavulin 16. This is my usual drink of choice.

I wasn't a scotch drinker until about a year ago. I was tipped off onto The Lagavulin, bought it, and it is the best scotch I've ever tried. Love the stuff! Usually pour a small glass every Friday and Saturday nights. No ice, just straight up. Love it!

(By the way, one of my best friends loves the scotch more than I do and also lives in Irvine. In case you ever need a Scotch buddy or something)

Yeah. Tonight is the evening of Yom Kippur, and I'm (technically) Jewish. I only observe one piece of the tradition this holiday: remembering the deceased - in this case, my mom's father, who passed away almost 3 years ago. I don't fast or go to synagogue, but it's one of the few times a year when I'll pull out the vodka. I'll have a vodka tonic or two, since it used to be his favorite drink. I remember being three years old and sharing them with him (1). And tomorrow, mom and I are going to the range together when dad goes to synagogue. Dad observes the high holidays in his way, but since mom and I are remembering her father (dad's parents are still alive and well; I'm not neglecting them in this), we're doing what he would have wanted us to do - not that we mind. So, yes, I'm enjoying the drink, but it isn't rowdy kids causing it. ------ (1) Lest you think he was doing something wrong by sharing a vodka tonic with a three year old, I'll mention that he had the vodka and I had the tonic water. He didn't mix it then offer me any. He'd just start drinking the vodka straight up, and give me a cup of tonic water. I'm one of the few people I know who drinks tonic water straight up, although since turning 21, there have been better options.

evan williams and mtn dew here.

Man, I love the South. That sounds like college all over again. We'd drink EW and mix with whatever was on hand....even Gatorade.

No drinking yesterday or today....just a couple of cups of coffee before I get ready for work.

Jeremiah Weed came out with a "Half and Half" of sweet tea vodka and lemonade. Pretty good stuff.

Dang... I'm not even halfway through my bottle of sweet tea vodka and this comes out. Well, another trip to BevMo for me.

I love Firefly...Just great stuff.

This half and half is very good, but needs a bit more bite in my opinion. I believe it's only about 13% ABV

    • Meh, the book was better. Seriously, hope no longer term problems for the guy in the video.
    • Yeah, I slowed it down. You could pad it. Maybe cut a pool noodle in half or something. Most of my posts have the video. I'm all about the video. 😀
    • Legitimately, I think 30 minutes a month at the range would be enough for this stuff. You go and you just focus on hitting shots where you're aligned to the target and the ball is curving the right way. It seems like you do enough practice and other work where this probably doesn't need much time.
    • I agree, the swing looked good at SV. I agree with the losing focus on some minor details we take for granted sometimes. There are times I will find a line, start thinking about something and forget were I wanted to aim. The number of times I find people aiming way left or right because the tee box points them there is mind boggling. Play a few rounds were you have a mental checklist, or try to commit to a pre-shot routine with focusing on alignment.  If you are just hitting shots at the range to hit good shots, I doubt there is a difference. If you are focusing on making swing changes (exaggeration), then there will be a difference. Still, there is no difference unless you have video evidence. Schrodinger's Golf Swing 😛
    • Almost never. I don’t go to the driving range. I could say that I’ll change that, but I’d be lying. I wasn’t debating over the shot shape, I didn’t know which direction the ball was going to turn. There’s a difference 😃 I’ve pretty much committed to hitting a fade. Slight push is fine which tends to be my miss more often than a pull. I’ve never taken a swing video on the course that looks anywhere near what I’m doing at home. There’s definitely a difference.
