Did a course kick your butt, wear you down, humiliate you? Do you thirst for revenge? Which course is it and when to you plan to mount your retaliatory strike?

A month or so ago my friend invited me to play his country club course (Peninsula GCC). I had played it before a few times...but this time the course just beat me up from tee to green. I shot a differential 20 over my handicap. I owe that course some payback!

I figure I'll get a shot at it the next invite I get from him, which should be in December.

Funny you mention that. I have one that I need to go beat the living crap out of. It's the City Club Marietta in Marietta, GA. I've scored worse on other courses, but I have never been as humiliated in front of friends as I was there. The worst part is that it's only 68.2/122/5800 from the tips.

I'm going back around new years. Hopefully in won't be buttcrack cold.

Ben Hogan is my swing coach.

There is a local track....Bartram Trail, that has kicked my butt.

I've only played it ~4 times and have figured out a few things about it.

The front nine is fairly conventional as far as hole breakdown goes. The back nine is sort of a freakshow: 3 par 5's, 3 par 3's and 3 par 4's.

Scoring is usually different in that my best scores on other courses are on the par 5's and par 3's.

This course is different. The 5's and 3's haven't been very friendly. There are a number of 4's that offer little risk and great reward, though. I had been using 3 wood due to shorter lengths on some...I'm going to try to bust a big drive on a few of them and wedge it tight.

Next time I play I'm going to hammer down on these 4's, go for center of green on 3's and hit a smart layup to the proper side on the par 5's and then try to get tight with a wedge.

The bengrass greens are usually fairly fast!!!!

I'm thinking very seriously about making this gem my home course, too. It's very close to home and will offer a great challenge. I use every club in the bag when I've played here.

I've got three of them actually. All of them follow the same situation...shot like crap on the front being intimidated by the course, and then played to my ability on the back.

Paa Ko Ridge, Albuquerque, NM
Shot a front nine 51 before I came back to my senses with a 44 on the back nine.

Sandia Resort, Albuquerque, NM
Shot a 53 on the front and a 43 on the back.

Rainmaker, Ruidoso, NM
Shot a whopping 55 on the front, 42 on the back.

If I go back to these courses now that I know what to expect, I'm hoping to put the whoop to 'em.

I played in the NMAA high school championship at San Juan Country Club in Farmington 14 years ago - temp didn't get above 45 the entire time we were there and the wind chill had to have been in the low 30's to upper 20's. To make matters worse, San Juan CC has tight OB positions on damn near every hole - at most of the tracks in Albuquerque that were there when I lived there (Ladera, Arroyo Del Oso, Rio Rathole/Chamisa Hills (that place is a f-ing disaster), or Paradise Hills), you can get away with being 'effectively wild' off the tee - not at San Juan - on the first hole, there's an OB line about 10 paces off the left side of the fairway. Same for the second, third, and fourth holes. I played a sweeping draw back in those days to battle the wind in Albuquerque and got away with a lot of missed tee shots - not there. I shot 91-85 and must have put at least five or six balls OB during that span, not to mention feeling like I was going to get frostbitten walking around out there. Now that I know how to hit a controlled draw and manage tight courses with irons off the tee, I want another shot at that place - that's definitely on my bucket list.

Thunderhawk GC in Beach Park kicked my butt earlier this year. It's definitely too difficult for my skill level. It's incredibly long, and there's only about 4ft. max of rough before your ball is swallowed by rough so thick and nasty you can't even walk in it. It's a beautiful course, but by 18 I was completely battered mentally and physically.

I hope to go back next year and be a bit more prepared for what I'll be facing!

I'm not going to start talking about payback, or revenge, or kicking a course's ass because I've found the golf gods don't take kindly to such blasphemy. However, there is one course I'd like to have another go at. It's called Akarana and it's in Auckland, I only played it once and had one of the worst golf days of my life, topped pretty much every shot I hit. Unfortunately, I was only in the city for a week so I haven't been able to get out there again.

I am looking forward to posting a good score at Los Serranos CC, at the longer course (I forget if it's north or south).

Pine Trace Golf Club in Michigan. I was playing with Dad on his Birthday. I havent beaten him yet. (Im only 13) Last time I played there with him we tied with two 93's. But that day I hit th ball great but I had atleast 5 Putts inside 10 feet for birdie and missed them all. :( And from 10 feet I had a 3 putt. I switched putters to a blade putter and love it. Now Im shooting mid 80's, but I havent play that course since. Next time I will play it is next year sadly.
