Just my two cents... if you're going to be walking, you want your feet to be as dry as possible. If your socks get wet from sweat, dew, etc... it's not comfortable. Check out the Footjoy DryJoys. I wouldn't be afraid to spend decent money on a pair of shoes if I was going to be walking 50+ rounds/year.

I vote the best walking shoe is FJ Contour series. Nike is coming close now with the Tiger series. I usally walk 30% of the time (40 rounds)

Visit every pro shop or golf store in your area and try as many as you can. Every foot is different, what works for one person might not work for the next.

Ogio Grom | Callaway X Hot Pro | Callaway X-Utility 3i | Mizuno MX-700 23º | Titleist Vokey SM 52.08, 58.12 | Mizuno MX-700 15º | Titleist 910 D2 9,5º | Scotty Cameron Newport 2 | Titleist Pro V1x and Taylormade Penta | Leupold GX-1

Wear what fits your foot and don't be afaid to try brands you've disliked in the past.

Adidas were always too long and narrow in the middle/arch - I tried a pair of Adidas trail shoes and they're using a different template for that shoe - they fit great!

I used to swear by Bostonian - no longer available.
I used to love my Mizunos - if only I hadn't purchased two pairs with permanent metal spikes.
I thought the Callaways looked and felt great in the store - on the course they're murder on my achilles tendon. I hate them very very much.
I tried Eccos but on the model I tried, the soles were too thin (I could feel every spike).
The Footjoys I bought in the fall were a pleasant surprise - they used to be too small for me in the toe-box. We'll see how well the hold up in 2010!!

When in doubt, wear running shoes. You won't over swing and you can wear them home.

I'm wearing the Adidas Tour 360 3.0 shoes for walking right now. They had a break-in period that was none too pleasant, but after two rounds, they started to feel like gloves for my feet. I can totally reccomend them, and will be looking for another pair or two since the prices are falling down on them right now.

^ My thoughts, exactly.

If you're looking for suggestions though, particularly Nike, check out the Nike Air Max Summer or the Nike Air Max Edge. Both look kinda like athletic shoes, almost like a normal Air Max. I bought the Air Max Summer sometime around May, played many rounds in them, and they are just amazing. Lightweight, stable, good looking (especially with shorts), and VERY comfortable. My buddy has the Air Max Edges and they're pretty similar. As an added bonus, both can be found at a great discount right now. Here are a couple of links, check them out, maybe it's what you're looking for. Air Max Summer Air Max Edge

Those Nikes look good. I've had a couple pairs of Nike running shoes, very comfortable. Golf shoes that look more like athletic shoes is something I would highly consider. A lot of the shoes on the market are too stiff and bulky for my liking, the more stretchy and soft a shoe is, the better it is to walk in. The shoe is supposed to be fit to the foot, not the other way around.

To be completely honest, they're so comfortable, I often forget to take them off. I dont know if my ADD tendencies have anything to do with that, but still, they fit just as well as any pair of Air Max or Shox that I've had. I totally understand what you mean about some being too stiff and bulky. I also have a pair of the Air Zoom golf shoes, and they are a good bit stiffer than the Air Max Summers. I recommend the Summer's to anyone looking for something lightweight, breathable, and comfortable.

I have worn many different brands. I was never a big Footjoy fan until I found the Contour series. For the money, there's not a better shoe or shoe value out there. Many different widths from extra narrow to wide make it easy to find one that fits like a glove. Great fit, great support...I own two pair. I cannot justify paying $180-250 for a pair of shoes. They are just not any better than the Footjoy Contour at $100 or less.

I have to second this post. I put over 170 miles on one pair alone last year and they are still holding up well. I replaced the spikes once is about the only thing I did maintenance wise. I just got my second pair for X-mas. $69 post x-mas sale @ Dick's.

I'd like to add a little to my previous post about keeping your feet dry. I have the FootJoy Contour series.. and they don't keep my feet dry at all. Yesterday we played and it was Cart Paths Only. So we had to walk more than normal. By the 6th or 7th hole my socks were wet. My feet were cold and soggy the whole day. I plan on buying new shoes this weekend. I've had the Contours for quite a while.. I've been looking at new ones anyway. Just can't find any others I like.

Just got myself some FJ Dry Joys (end of season special) and they were very comfortable from the moment I put them on. No blisters, no problems, no break in period.

I have found that shoe comfort is different between carrying and pull/push carts. When carrying the bag, your feet tend to swell. The side pads on the outside edge of the foot below the small toe can have a strong burning sensation. I think the width of shoe is an important issue at that point. When pulling the cart, your feet don't appear to swell as much, so you may want to factor these options in when selecting shoes. There is a new shoe on the market made by True Linkswear. You may want to check it out. Congrats on choosing to playing the game as it was meant to be. You may want to check out The Walking Golfers Society. Enjoy the walk down the fairways!
