Where do you see these requirements? I already entered, so I can't change it, but I fit for 4 of their 5 criteria. Oh well, if I miss it, I miss it. Maybe they figured they can't convert Mizuno players

If you look in the official rules, it spells out those requirements to get a free iron "while supplies last" along with a bunch of releases and such.

Yep. It seems the rest of us can get a $10 off promo. In part, it's my fault for not reading this as carefully at first. On the other hand, the placement of this rule effectively tells me that they're not interested in my business.

I'm surprised at how much TM-bashing is going on. All they're doing is giving away free irons. If you don't like it, don't register for it and don't buy one. I can't afford new irons right now, but I'll be getting a set of the r7 irons as soon as I can. Those are some of the sweetest irons I've ever hit, and I've tried them all in my extensive time on Golfsmith's launch monitor. I wish they'd toss me a free r7 6-iron.

I do agree that the de-lofting pretty much sucks. But the golfing world has been doing this for awhile. It's not like TM is the first.

It seems anytime there is a thread that mentions either TM or Scottys - no matter what context - it always turns into a pulpit for the bashers. A pity, as it takes away the whole purpose of the discussion.

Whatever else TM does, they seem to always be pushing the envelope from a marketing point of view. The concept of getting people to play a 6 iron a little is very smart. For some time I've thought that the next time I decide to get new clubs, I would narrow down my choice to a few choices, then go on eBay and buy 6 irons from each. It always feels to me that I just can't really get a feel for a club by just spending a little time hitting into the net in a store- I need to spend a lot of time getting used to the new feel, trying different shape shots, how they perform in the rough, etc. Then after I'm done I'll put them back on eBay, and even losing much of the resale value would be OK because I'd then have a lot more confidence in the new iron choice. TM's promotion being prove both helpful and harmful. Probably a lot of their sales are more of an impulse buy in the store, or perhaps based on reputation, recoomendations, or TM's advertising, or maybe even a longer session at the store with a launch monitor where they look impressive. But it is possible that those same customers who try TM's 6 iron promotion and get a chance to play with it a lot on the course or range may find they don't like it afterall, and they'll lose a sale instead.

I guess when you think about it, 20,000 isnt really that big of a number, I answered some of the questions as were suggested. They may have already given all of them out before I even filled it out. I would actually think they would like to target someone who isnt already a TM customer as I have never purchased any of their products rather than try to get repeat business. If im picked to receive one of the 6 irons, Ill definitely give it a serious tryout at the range first then put it into play, ill simply add it to my bag as I only have 12 clubs anyway. It being stronger lofted might actually prove useful for me as I'll be able to use it instead of hitting my 5 hybrid on some medium length par 3's and 2nd shot on par 4's where my normally lofted 6 iron would have to be hit perfectly to carry far enough, play it like a 5.5 iron. And if I dont like it, I didnt lose any money buying something I cant hit.

I signed up............I have never owned any TM's......but did try the R7's out 2 years ago......I shattered my left wrist 10 yrs ago and have to be careful ....need clubs that absorb the vibrations........I really didn't like the feel of the R7's.......settled for Callaway Fusions.

If they send me a sample 6 iron, I'll try it again.......matbe.....or give it to my grandsons.

The tour pros use 44" drivers. They know they can't control a 46" driver, and they're right. Phil Mickelson uses a 46" driver, and why did he lose the U.S. Open? Anyone?

But remember the sort of advice that the likes of Golf Digest offer... just because Tour Pros use something, doesn't mean that us amateurs should ;)

In reality, TaylorMade is not really marketing to the people who use golf forums. They probably realize that people on the forums are already very aware of club performances through word-of-mouth and are passionate enough about the game to know the truths and myths that are out there. I don't think folks are totally bashing TM, just disecting thier Marketing Strategy. Finding the clubs that work for you is a path that all golfersl take, TM is just making sure they are in the conversation. I found the irons I like! Now I need to find that Perfect Driver.

BTW, I registered for the freebie, who doesn't want "Free"? I'd probably play with it for a while, then sell it on ebay or give it away to someone else.

I registered as well, and have to admit that I skewed my answers a little to make sure I qualified. If I win it, I'll hit it a couple times at the range, and then give it to my son to see how he likes it. He's playing with a set of clumsy Slazinger Raw Distance hybrid irons right now, so he'll be happy to have it.

Funny, they advertise how much farther their burner iron goes compared to their competitors. This is why I would never buy a TaylorMade club. Irons are not made to hit the ball far, they're made to gap distances, and anyone stupid enough to buy into an iron that hits the ball farther is probably also the reason companies like Amway stay in business.

Yea they have to give them away because people won't buy them.....The burner irons are pieces of crap IMO. I can't hit them worth a fart. The head is way too big, the offset offsets me, and the top line of the club head just makes me want to rip the head off and see how far I can throw it into the aqua range....

Just my opinion though.

I seen this ad in GD and it lured me to the web site. I started checking the specs and comparing and realized what was going on.
I hope the other equipment makers do not get drawn into this type of advertising. It is already out of hand. If this coninues we will
end up need another gap wedge, when a PW becomes 40*. I am glad there are many others with the outlook.

It's actually getting worse. Wilson now offers a set with two gap wedges. TM is not far off, with an amazing 11° gap between PW and SW, another gap wedge is just 1° away it seems. People do fall for this crap, believe it or not. I've heard countless people talk about how "the new technology hits it further." If delofting is new technology, what is the sextant, infintile technology?

And to top it off, they're still trying to sell us a "3 iron" in their sets.

This is not the first time that Taylormade has done this in one of their sets. I couple of years ago I was fairly new to golf and bought my r7XD irons without looking at the specs. I started to notice the huge distance between my PW and my 52* wedge and did some research. What I found out was that my PW was 44*. I then went to the store and bought a 48* wedge to match my others and got it bent to 47*. I then saw that my 3 iron was 18 degrees so I took it out of my bag and now just carry 4-PW but use them as 3-9 because that what their lofts indicate. The thing is that even though the club labels are misleading, I really love the irons. They are really easy to get into the air and, as I learn to work the ball, they cooperate with the commands for a fade or draw. They are very good irons as long as you know that when you hit your 7 iron, you are actually hitting a 6 iron, and adjust your wedges appropriately.

Although most know the reason the ball is going further is due to delofting, it still is a decent gimmick to a certain segment. Old farts, such as myself, hate to admit that they cannot hit it as far as they used to. My w/s di7 irons are delofted, although not quite as much as these. Maybe I need to check these out.

BTW, how many kids used to have a basketball goal lower than the standard 10ft height in their backyard? I had one and had a ton of fun with it. Made me feel like a an NBA player. It's all about having fun. If some are happy with getting more distance with a delofted club, so be it. Why should anyone care?

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
