I wish I knew how fast I played, unfortunately I live just south of L.A. right now and I don't belong to a private course. IT SUCKS TO PLAY GOLF AROUND HERE!!! Luckily, I am moving next year. When I was living at my parents' place in suburban CT, I had the luxury of playing as fast as I wanted to sometimes. My natural pace is probably 2.5 or 3 hours per 18.

Besides the fact that they look like crap? And how you have to mess w/ them every time you use an iron?

I really shouldn't say anything on this subject especially since it's not topic related, however I use to use iron covers way back in the day, when I was working part time as a young adult and had next to no money and wanted to keep my sticks in great shape. The covers were short lived because I couldn't stand the idea of having to take them off everytime and putting them back on. Now I personally think the bag chatter or clatter (not sure which is correct in this instance) on the iron adds character. It's like the old cowboy with the weathered skin; they are old tools of the trade and have gone to battle with me. I don't know that they look like crap, but I understand both sides of the coin here.

C'mon guys, do we have to have the same iron cover discussion every time someone mentions them?

I got out on a 9 hole course alone for the first time in a while. At least, for the first 7 holes. After I got through the !? six-some !? on the 3rd hole it was smooth sailing up until the 8th, when I caught the next group ahead, a twosome clearly stuck behind a larger group ahead of them. The first 7 holes took just short of an hour. The round ended up taking an hour and 40... But I was pretty happy with my own pace.

I'm as fast as anyone left to my own devices. It is rare to have enough empty holes in front of me to play as fast as I would like.

I work at a golf course (in the afternoons) and I have the first tee time of every morning that I work so that there isn't anybody ahead of me, I tend to set off (walking with a push cart) around 5:55 and get back at 8:30 so about the same speed as Iacas.

Im a pretty fast player, or impatient would be a better word...to the point where im lining up a shot and getting ready to go while a playing partners ball is still in the air..lol. I play in a constant state of ready golf. I do slow down on the tee and greens, though.

Usually I'm ready to hit my shot right after my partner's ball has landed. I take a little longer on greens but I'm fairly fast when teeing off.
If I'm alone it takes me 1 hour to play 9 holes. When playing in a foursome 18 holes take 4 hours, usually cuz some of players take 6 shots to hit the green.
The most annoying thing is playing with ladies above a 20 handicap, it takes them about 4 shots to surpass the point where i'm standing after my tee shot.

I must be faster than most because, contrary to what I keep reading, I don't wait until I get to my ball to decide what club to hit unless it's in the deep rough. I usually know what I'm going to hit halfway thru my walk to the ball.

Maybe that's because you used driver and already know what you have left to the pin.

Obsessed much?

You totally missed the point of that other thread. How any one can talk about using blade irons, when they are unable to hit today's high moi driver with any consistency is beyond me.

Obsessed much?

I was actually joking (at least I was trying to). Being old school (and cheap) I pace my yardage, so my iron is usually chosen before I'm done walking too.

I don't have a GPS either, so I sometimes walk it off to the marker, but usually I can just tell within a couple yards by looking. My pre-shot:

- Walk to ball, usually know at least what choice of two clubs I'll have by the time I arrive
- Pace off distance from markers or just estimate, feel wind, choose club
- Line up shot from behind the ball
- Setup, practice swing, usually multiple for short shots, pitches/chips
- Fire away

My optimal pace is 3-3.5 hours. I don't like trying to finish in 2 hours. I feel rushed and like I'm not scoring as well as I'm capable if I try to rush around the course in less than 3 hours.

I walk 18 in less than 2 hours. I don't waste time. I've played the course 200 times. I trust my swing, no need for practice swings.

I'm working on slowing down to tournament pace.

I advocated ready golf. When you know you are up next, start thinking about your shot and what club as the person before you hits.

I am pretty steady,

Calculate Yardage, a zone that i want to hit in, taking trouble out of play. Decide the type of shot i want to hit. Pick the club that will go that distance with that shape. Stand behind the ball, imagine the shot, see the ball land and roll out. Take a half swing to looses up, imagine the shot again. Find my target line, set up, waggle, let it rip.

That part would drive me nuts - I probably would have to either look away or I'd be tempted to start walking early.

I suspect that in real time, it's faster than it sounds.

If I'm walking alone I can get in 9 holes in 1 hour 30 or less (if I don't have any wild shots). Too many bad players out there hitting it all over the place. That, IMO is the biggest cause of slow play.
