Would he have stuck around if he was in contention? Maybe. Certainly it'd be more likely. But comparing this to the US Open is impossible. There he was in contention and would go on to win, and it was a Major. The risk-reward on the decision is different. Plus, he knew at that point he was going to have to have the major hip surgery to have any hope to continue to play anyway. Messing around with a neck injury is different, and especially when the best payoff is finishing in the middle of the pack, I don't blame him for deciding not to ride it out. That's 11 fewer holes of pain, and probably increases the odds he heals up and gets back out closer to 100% sooner.

The MRI showed the inflammation. It was real. Thank goodness it wasn't a more severe condition, but you can't know that before the MRI.....

TRANSLATION: He wasn't really injured but needed to get off the course because he couldn't take posting another high number. This is obviously my opinion but I believe it 100%. This guy played with a broken leg and he couldn't play with inflammation? Not buying it. His ego couldn't take another bad round so he ditched.

you're comparing apples and oranges. There's a reason why medical professionals take possible head/neck injuries so seriously and take every precaution not to do further damage when treating such injuries vs other injuries. to say that tiger can play through a leg injury but not a possible neck injury makes no sense. look at it this way, if there is an injury to the neck and you continue to play and risk further trauma/injury to the area, it could mean a life changing outcome............i.e. paralysis. i'm not saying tiger's injury is even remotely close to that, but i sure know that if i had a leg injury but could still swing a club vs a neck injury and could still swing the club, i would be more likely to call it quits with the neck pain than the leg pain as most people with an ounce of common sense would do. now, if tiger was in contention to win the tournament, i'm sure the decision to withdrawal would have been that much more difficult, however with him not having a remote chance of winning or coming anywhere near the leaderboard, i'm sure it was a relatively easy decision with no risk/reward considerations since it was all risk at that point in time with no reward. as i said before, a no brainer decision.

We don't know this at all. Did you read the MRI results? TIGER is saying that the MRI showed inflammation. That's what I'm saying. I don't think he was hurt. No one except the MD and Tiger knows what the MRI showed.

I believe this injury was triggered by his car accident. He is suffering from a case of whiplash as well as years and years of back and neck strain. I know he placed well at the Masters, but sometimes whiplash does not "rear it's ugly head" for some time after the initial accident.

What? The car accident was nearly half a year ago. C'mon...

"Whiplash symptoms will occur immediately after a car accident. MYTH!

The fact is, an individual may have some pain immediately following a car accident, but whiplash symptoms may not occur for hours, days, weeks or possibly even months. That's why it's imperative that anyone involved in a car accident should seek professional health care immediately to determine whether a whiplash injury has actually occurred." http://my.clevelandclinic.org/disord..._syndrome.aspx I can see where an undiagnosed injury to his neck in the accident triggered an inflamatory process that would have been aggravated by his preparation to return to golf. I don't think he would have to have debilitating pain at the time of the accident. Just enough of an injury to start the process. Nobody can say for sure, because I doubt anybody in Tiger's camp will ever come out and reveal a detailed description of Tiger's medical history. I doesn't really matter. What matters is will it respond to treatment and not be re-aggravated when he starts swinging a club again. When he starts swinging a club again, how much is he going to have to throttle back? The worst thing that could happen, given what we know, is for him to not let this heal as best it can. If he doesn't, then this could develop into a chronic pain condtion . . . IMHO Some of you docs on the board chime in and tell me if I'm off base.

How bad can whiplash be when backing out of a driveway? Not to mention he was driving a Cadillac Escalde, that thing's the size of my house.

How bad can whiplash be when backing out of a driveway? Not to mention he was driving a Cadillac Escalde, that thing's the size of my house.

Well, let's see

what a whiplash is: "Whiplash is defined as a sudden extension of the cervical spine (backward movement of the neck) and flexion (forward movement of the neck). This type of trauma is also referred to as a cervical acceleration-deceleration (CAD) injury. Rear-end or side-impact motor vehicle collisions are the number one cause of whiplash with injury to the muscles, ligaments, tendons, joints, and discs of the cervical spine. "There are two facet joints between each pair of vertebrae--one on each side of the spine. The surfaces of the facet joints are covered by articular cartilage. Articular cartilage is a smooth, rubbery material that covers the ends of most joints. It allows the bone ends to move against each other smoothly, without pain. The alignment of the facet joints of the cervical spine allows freedom of movement as you bend and turn your neck. "When the head and neck are suddenly and forcefully whipped forward and back, mechanical forces place excessive stress on the cervical spine. Traumatic disc rupture and soft tissue damage can occur. The cartilage between the disc and the vertebral bone is often cracked. This is known as a rim lesion. Soft tissue around the facet joint can be injured. Many of the pain-sensing nerves of the spine are in the facet joints. The normally smooth surfaces on which these joints glide can become rough, irritated, and inflamed. Studies show that neck pain often comes from the damaged facet joints. According to the Orlando Sentinel: "The crash knocked Tiger Woods, 33, unconscious for about six minutes, according to a call report compiled by the Orange County Sheriff's Office and obtained by the Orlando Sentinel. Bruhn said the golfer faded in and out of consciousness. "She supposedly got him out and laid him on the ground," he said. "He was in and out of consciousness when my guys got there." Woods was conscious enough to speak, he said. "He was mumbling but didn't say anything coherent," Saylor said. Though the accident did not cause major property damage, "he suffered serious injuries," Montes said. The investigation is ongoing, and charges may be pending. CNN reported: "There was Tiger Woods laying on the ground in front of the vehicle with his wife over him rendering first aid," he told reporters. "He was in and out of consciousness with lacerations to his upper and lower lip," Saylor said. "He was mumbling but didn't say anything coherent." He could have had a concussion. "Woods' concussion, of course, may be the perfect excuse for him to withdraw from this week's year-ender. If it was any regular-season event his absence would be likely, if not inevitable. But it is not nearly as simple as that. Woods is the host of the 16-man invitational in Thousand Oaks; it is a mainstay of his charitable foundations. It would be embarrassing if he did pull out, if only because he managed to play – and win – last year's US Open when plainly in agony with a knee injury and fractured fibia. Concussion defined Maybe he didn't fair was well in that tank as everybody thought or as Tiger and his camp would have you believe . . .

I still doubt that it's going to happen five months later, and Tiger's word isn't what it once was, but he specifically denied it had anything to do with the car accident. I think it's pointless to debate such an avenue.

Tiger isn't a doctor. He may deny that his neck injury has nothing to do with the car accident, but in reality, what does he know? If anything, it didn't help.

The question is, what the heck does it matter how he got the injury to us? To him, it is important because if he got it through too much practice, he may have to reconsider doing the same again at a later time.

Yeah, not too concerned with cause, but when he'll be back. Sounds like he won't miss the US Open. Not my favorite person, but I do want to see him in the field as it should make things more interesting.

    • Day 209 (27 Nov 24) - Easy session with the LW - short pitches replicating greens side up and downs. Finished up with the 7i and hard foam balls - making 1/2 to 3/4 swings with deliberately slowed tempo…from varied lies.
    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
