After getting my handicap down and hitting almost every fairway driving 230 240 irons were perfect wedges perfect putting fine. And then all of a sudden i cant hit my driver past 200 hitting it thin everytime with a big slice. I went out again same thing. Today went to range same thing hit 80 balls almost every time but if i dident slice i hit it super thin. After devoting my life to golf playing everyday dreaming of getting a nice career in golf teaching or working for a company and wanting to go to a golf college. That dream seems out of the question. I Started getting homeschooled this year due to the fact that i have adhd some autism. I took lessons from a cool club pro who i thought was my freind but after reading posts about slicing and finding out that rolling the wrists is a quick fix i feel betrayed as he always told me to roll them. All i wanted to do was be a good golfer and get a job in the golf industry is that to much to ask i guess it is. Ill be deleting my profile after i post this i dont want to see a golf club ever again

dude... are you serious? look at tiger hacking it away this year. has he given up? nope. so, you met a pro who doesn't really care about making better golfers, it happens. that doesn't mean you quit. that means you get focused and learn how to properly impact the ball. if you've been hitting it well up til now doing things incorrectly, think of how good you will be once you fix this one minor problem. and it is minor. shouldn't take more than a week or two to get the proper feel of the impact position and ingrain it into your swing. you'll probably have to work on alignment as well cause pullers generally line up too far right(i know from experience). but seriously, grab some sack, quit crying, pick up a club and go practice 7 iron chip shots THE RIGHT WAY. people are here to help. look up flying wedge drills on youtube and start there.

Kevin - Nothing is as bad as it seems when it is happening. Perhaps you just need to take a little break, relax from the game and come back fresh. It is probably something as simple as your swing tempo being off because you are pressing and trying too hard. One thing is for sure, you won't succeed if you quit.

Hold on, kb... You have an 8 HDCP, so you must be doing something right.

Maybe you're trying too hard? Take a week off from playing golf - jog and do other things, see a couple of movies - and then try it again.

When things go wrong, don't get so many ideas bouncing around in your head you confuse yourself. If I lay off for a couple of weeks, I'm surprised that I can often figure out what I was doing wrong in a half-dozen balls once I hit the range.

Also, golf has lots of different advice on rolling the wrists. So, don't dump your pro right away.

Focus, connect and follow through!

If that little bit makes you want to quit, maybe the game isn't for you. Better to learn that now than half way through college.

bit dramatic don't you think?

We all go through the same thing. Some days I'm driving 270-280 and some days I can't seem to stop slicing balls OB. From the sounds of it, you're still young. You have a whole career to build a head of you and its definitely not going to come easy so in a way, yes it is asking too much to ask for a perfect career in golf. With that said, nothing comes easy and having a sucessful career in any industry doesn't come easy. It's how you handle situations (such as the one you're in right now) that will determine where your career goes.

You can call it quits because of a bad slice...or you can work to fix it and move on and get better. If you don't have the mental commitment to fix it and call it quits this early on in your life, then shades9323 is right, maybe the game isn't for you. Golf tests our patience and mental, emotional, physical capacity all the time. Grow on it and handle it to your best abilities. Its what makes this sport so great.

just a quick note. i'm no teaching pro but if you're slicing and thinning your drives, its likely that you are lifting your chest/body up on the downswing which causes your club face to be open and may cause you to hit thin.
Focus on keeping your head and shoulders down throughout the swing. Video tape your swing from the front and side and post it up here. I'm sure everyone here can help dissect your swing and tell you what you're doing wrong.

When I read the title I thought maybe you had a career ending injury or something. But you're quitting because you can't stop slicing? Seriously?

You can find another teacher if you want to. But if I were trying to get really good, I certainly would listen to a bunch of idiots like us on message boards for your swing issues.

You need to start with a reality check.
Firstly, your handicap isn't 8. Your handicap never was 8.
An 8 handicapper doesn't suddenly lose the ability to hit the ball 200 yards off the tee or hit it thin every time.
Now...once you've been honest with yourself, you need to reevaluate your approach to the game.
We play it because we love PLAYING the game. Only the best players or those who are luck get to have a career in golf.
You have been putting the cart before the horse.
You have to continue playing and whatever develops develops. If it's just playing golf once a week, then that in itself is a luxury.
The other thing is that you mustn't behave as if you have been betrayed by your teacher. He was just trying to get your clubface square at impact.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

You'll go blind, you know.

OP, take a break. Go do something else you enjoy for a while until you feel like picking up a club again. There's commitment, and there's obsession.

Stretch.

You sound like your a young kid so few pieces of advice...

1) Im only 22 and am young as well however going through the teens one thing I know now is that you must be tough, have thick skin and realize your always your own biggest critic..

2) If you quit from this you dont deserve the game of golf

3) Arnold Palmer once said “The most rewarding things you do in life are often the ones that look like they cannot be done.”

Take a few days off. Get rid of the club pro and go back to the basics... hit your irons a few weeks then take the driver out and hit it with a smooth slow swing... with the technology today easy does it...

P.S: if it was attention you were looking for you got it

I've seen and experienced the same shot results that you are mentioning. For me, it was caused by not finishing with my weight forward. I would not shift my weight to start the downswing, which produced an outside-in swing using mostly my arms only. Also, it is important to finish with your weight on the front half of your lead foot.
