sorry, but none of my friends would understand my frustration. So i need to rely on y'all. Playing in a Publinx qualifer this week and recently got the pairings. the highlights


Time par for the round is 4:15

My tee time for first round: 7:00 off first tee
Last tee time off the 10th hole: 9:10


So in other words one of two things is happening. Either 1) they expect us to play the back nine 25 minutes quicker than the front 9 or they expect us to wait 20 minutes at the turn. From my perspective neither is acceptable for a USGA (or any other event for that matter.)

I suspect they realize that many groups will be behind the time par.

I'm not sure what you're saying. If you take 4:15 to play 18 and split that over the front and back evenly, you'll end the front 9 at 9:07 / 9:08. The last group tees off the 10th at 9:10, so you'll run into them (or the group ahead of you) at the 10th tee if you keep perfect time, but you should only be delayed one starting time gap (about 8 minutes?). An 8 minute wait doesn't sound too terrible, am I missing something?

Yes. Let's say my effective 10th hole tee time is 9:20. then we would have to play the back nine in 1:55 to make our total round time par, or 20 minutes faster than the front. Likely not an issue for the 2nd 18 when there will be a ton of twosomes but could be a major one on the front nine.

The worst I have heard of was an hour and fifteen minute wait to start the back nine, the starter suggested they go in the bar, when they came out they were a bit worse for wear if you get my drift and had a lousy back nine.
I think I personally would have said screw it and gone home lol.

Have you played the course before? Some courses have a better flow on one nine or the design just means things go faster on one nine. It's not inconceivable at my home course to play the back nine 20 minutes faster than the front when it's busy.

Seems like time par would be moot if you had to wait 20 minutes on the 10 tee. So long as you remained in position throughout the back nine, there shouldn't be a problem. I'm sure the tournament organizer will take this into account.

Ah, got it. You're saying that they are not factoring in the delay between 9 and 10 into their par time calculations. Is there a penalty for coming in late? I would assume that since you are physically incapable of playing faster the only downside would be playing the back 9 at a normal rate and coming in 10 or so minutes over your total par time.

I would say "bollocks" to that ruling.

If you haven't lost a clear hole to the group in front, according to the rules it shouldn't matter if it takes 100 hours to complete your round.

Its just to weed out the numbnuts who either dont let other groups through, or are very slow.

How can you complete your round any quicker if you are governed by the group ahead of you?

It will be interesting to find out what happens but you could end up at the 10th tee and get away pretty quickly anyway. The back 9 might go quicker for a variety of reasons. It works out opposite on one of the courses near me but the back 9 is quite hilly and takes longer. You never know.

ending up shooting 76-88. completely died on the final 9. was 90 degrees out. just am not conditioned to walk 36 holes. everyone who qualified was a college player.
