what do you guys and gals think about having those evening tee times....like 3:00 ish........do you think its an advantage or disadvantage to have to sit and wait to get on the course vs waking up and heading right for the golf course first thing???

Keep it where the mowers go!

depends..I hate any green after it gets that late in the day. So many footprints, new grass growth..dried out. If the course isn't a busy course, then I don't mind when I go out..sometimes actually prefer later times, especially at the end of summer and start of golf season. Like the look of a course as the shadows get long.

I have been playing most of this year after work on friday evenings. Some very good golf, and views with the sun setting in the distance. Usually a very quiet time to go. Wish I got out a little earlier to play 18.

It's the best time of the day to play. Tee off at 5:30 p.m. and play nine. It's cool, the light is dramatic, it's quiet, because the course is fairly empty. What a perfect way to end a day.

Agreed. if I'm looking to play a quick 9 holes on a week day, teeing off around 5-5:30 is perfect. Not too crowded and usually the twilight deals here are pretty good. I can finish roughly 13 holes or so when I tee off this late.

Otherwise, I tee off around 3 PM moreso than tee off early morning. By 3 PM its not TOO crowded but the only problem is that all the hackers come out in the afternoon instead of morning it seems...

I like playing in the evening. After work go walk 9 holes if I get an opening shift. I'm not a morning person, lol. I'll go in the morning if I'm playing with someone, early as possible so there aren't people up our butts the whole round, I don't play well under pressure at all, lol. If I have to wait on a tee box, and the group behind us catches up and drives right up beside us as my friend and I are still waiting for the fairway to clear so we can tee off... yep, that's usually when I hit a topper into the rough or pop fly or pure shank into the trees.

Pros:
it's cheap

ranger's gone so play at your own pace

Cons:
it's cheap so sometimes it's crowded
Mosquitos
greens not smooth anymore
ranger's gone so people play at their own pace

I'm not a huge fan of the 3:00 tee time but don't mind them if it's all that's available. I'll usually do them when I take a half day from work but never on a weekend (normal times are between 9 and noon at the latest).

I enjoy the occasional after work 9 but can find them a bit frustrating. It's always been a gentlemen's agreement among the people i play with that evening rounds are more for fun and practice than real competition. In other words, play fairly quickly with the goal of getting in as many holes as possible before it gets too dark. With no traffic on the course, we can usually do 16 holes in just under 150 minutes.

It kills me to get matched up with or behind guys who fully intend to use the entire time available before dark (usually 2 and a half hours if you tee off at 6PM) to play only 9 holes. We'll usually try to hop around to open holes or replay one we just came down but it sucks not being able to play sequentially. That said, you can't beat 8 bucks to play (even if its just 9 holes).

When I play on weekday evenings it's always around 5ish and unfortunately a lot of people have the same idea making the courses fairly crowded at times. I prefer to play around 1 if I can, since most people are still working and it's hot as hell at that time keeping the course open.

I love playing twilight as it allow me to play more golf. In my area after 3 is $17-22 depending on the course. Can get in 18 easily with a few courses being under 4 hour rounds.

Personally I hate late afternoon tee times. I'll try and play after work sometimes during the week typically teeing off around 3ish and I find that I am at my worst on these days. I feel like I have to rush around the course because its getting late even though I have nothing to do and just end up playing poorly. I am much better suited to get up and play early.

I've only played two morning rounds ever. I definitely prefer the evening, it's my best mental and physical time of day.

    • So excited you made it out! I live in Portland and go most springs. If you liked Sheep's Ranch you ain't seen nothing yet. It's incredibly picturesque and with a 2 club wind it's not a cake walk. But as far as the quality of the course in terms of challenge and interest, in my opinion it's easily the worst on the property! Also, Old Mac started as my least favorite (this was before Sheep's Ranch opened). But I listened to the fried egg podcast about it and read through Doak's descriptions and it totally changed my perspective. Now it's fighting for top spot. So excited for you!
