did tiger really just the double the first hole. :(

He won't make it to the next tournament, even with a decent swing.

Phil keep on being Phil, trying to hit a pitch shot on the green (when the ball is lying on the green, not the approach) with a high lofted wedge on his eagle attempt. Ended up hitting it way past the hole. I was thinking before he hit it "He'll blade it". Not exactly blade, but definitely not a good shot. First time I've seen someone pitch a shot on the green without having fringe or rough in the way.

Oh Phil what are you doing??? When you are in the middle of the green and have a straight line to the hole, despite break - dont try to lob it with a wedge and hit it 20 feet by, cuz you chunk it...............

i'm not watching on TV right now but can someone explain the situation as to why Mickelson hit a wedge...? What was he trying to do exactly? How far was the pin?

He reached the par-5 15th green in two, and had a 40-foot putt over a ridge for eagle. Whereas the rest of the world decides this is the time to make a good lag putt to set up a birdie, Phil decides that he can hit a flop shot from an extremely tight lie closer to the hole (which explains why he never contends at the British Open). Predictably, he drop-kick blades the shot 20 feet past, and two-putts for par.

I didn't even know that it was permissible to even chip on a green!!! I learn something new everyday.

Hey Greenkeeper, that 3feet divot belongs to the 2nd green, maybe you want to replant it - sorry my flop shot didnt work out as planned - but dont blame me, Phil did it too :)

It is allowed, but you probably get kicked in the nuts by somebody after the round.

'Should I hit another flop shot on the green here?'

A great shot is when you go for it and pull it off. A smart shot is when you don't have the guts to try it. ~ Phil Mickelson.

Well...one positive...Tiger just f*cking bombed a drive 345 yards......

Then he tees off on 10th and hits it in the worst spot with a terrible angle of attack at the hole, plays a high cut starting low under a tree and over some other trees and lands 5 feet from the hole.....WTF

Tiger should play every iron shot from the trees if it makes to that more often.

We are certainly treated to some great recovery shots from all over the place (Micky and Kitty that is) - too bad they cant keep it in the fairway and get themselves easier chances for birdies or certain pars instead of running the risk of a bogey or worse.

Tiger's swing looks a bit different this tournament compared to the last. Seems a bit more upright..but I notice when he is playing bad, his follow through is very wild. I notice he tends to really pull the club across his body during the follow through. Not sure if he does that as a compensation or his tempo is just way off. Definitely not swinging the same way as last week.

Probably as a compensation. That's also why you see him let go of the club with his right hand too.

I let of my right hand a lot like that too. It's usually because I can feel the club face closing or because I feel like I am coming over the top.

I believe Tiger has to finish in the top 5 to advance to the championship and as much as I love Tiger...I don't think that will happen after today's opening round. I hope he proves me wrong.
