I am. If you have the money to buy them, buy them. If your wife doesn't want you to have something you really want then she is selfish.

That may work in theory, but in practice it can mess up a relationship.

How about, "honey, pick out something you want to buy and buy it....because I am going to buy something I want."

This could be dangerous.

"My ball is on top of a rock in the hazard, do I get some sort of relief?"

10 years, grats. My wife has already planned out our 10 year (Hawaii trip) so doubtful I will get clubs as well. But, I will certainly get to play some golf out there

I would avoid asking for clubs for 10 year anny to be honest. Maybe Bday and Xmas combined. Mention that for your 10 year you want something that symbolizes your love and all that. Mix in your desire for clubs this year and you never know. Jedi mind tricks work sometimes. She'll catch on I bet.

Just tell her you are going to buy new clubs. If she happens to asks why, just tell her they are like women's shoes. The new ones are on sale and your old ones are out of fashion !

You could retile the hearth on the fireplace, put tile in the laundry room and bathroom and lay hardwood floors in the rest of the house!!!!

There is probably some way to work it out as posted in the other responses (ie. .give her something too, explain why you need them, etc, etc). BUT if not (and you have the money and haven't been making a lot of extra purchases lately) I would go ahead and get them. She'll get mad but she's not going to divorce you over some golf clubs - unless it's like a straw-breaking-the-camels-back kind of thing . .so, if that could be the case, then wait for next season.

My wife gets mad at me a lot . .it's how I keep her in shape. Just gotta make sure you're in-line (I imagine her complaining about the incident to her best friend . .if it sounds really bad then I know I'm out of line).

for example of something that would sound bad:
Wife to best friend (crying) "He went out and bought new golf clubs last week but I'm wearing the same bathrobe I had when we got married and we're getting eviction notices"

Step one: Go buy clubs.

Step 2: Tell wife to get in the goddamn kitchen and make you a sandwich!

step 3: grab a beer and watch football.

Should work.

Rookie....

You shouldn't ever grab your own beer! You should try that and let us know how it goes. Remember though, video or it didn't happen.

Ahh dang your right rookie mistake. Could even eliminate the grab a beer part because she should be handing you an ice cold brew as soon as you get home anyways. Crap! Gotta work on my womanizing skills.

Man, my marriage must be very different than most of yours... If I need (or, let's face it, want) new irons, I budget a little bit ahead of time and then go get them. Do you guys go through your finances together with a fine toothed comb?

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
