First I will apologize for tooting my horn.

510 yard par 5. I hit a great drive and was sitting at 240. Conservative by nature, I had my 3h in hand waiting for the 4some in front of me to hit their third. I just wanted to get up there close and hit a nice chip and two putt. As I waited the thought crossed my mind to grow some balls and hit the 3W. So I did. My 3W is not the easiest off the deck and I usually hit it off the tee on narrow par fours. Anyway contact wasn't the greatest, but had a decent flight and hit about 15 yards short of the green and rolled to a foot. Very, very close to a double eagle. Tapped in for the eagle. Straight pure luck is all, and I still shot a 43, but definitely a shot I won't soon forget.

Do you all do anything special with the ball when you eagle? I used a sharpie to mark the date, yardage and hole. My wife thinks I'm nuts, but I told her I was going to do something with it. I have a special old putter (sentimental value) my younger bro gave me last year when I started really playing this game. I would like to do something to incorporate the two.

Congratulations! I've had a few eagle opportunities but they were all long putts and I haven't sunk one yet. Most of them I was able 2 putt and make birdie on. The 1st hole on a course I play often is a par 5 and its pretty easy to get on the green in 2 shots. The fairway is wide and the green is probably about 40ft down hill which makes it a lot easier to reach with your 2nd shot.

I got my first eagle on a par5 too when I flushed a 4i to 20 ft and slammed the right-to-left, uphill putt in the back of the hole. I threw my arms in the air and danced around the green for about a minute while my friend just shook his head. There were these two old guys waiting to hit from the fairway that were giving me looks; they probably thought I got a par or something haha. But anyways, I didn't keep the ball or anything but I'll always have the memory.

The good thing is once you've got your first you'll normally find they come a bit easier - you know how to do it now and you've broken the seal so to speak. As for the ball, I think your wife might be right, if the ball really made the difference i'd continue to use it, it obviously works!

To answer this question I will ask you one! What is the difference between someone shooting a 59 and writing on that ball and keeping it or someone who makes their 1st eagle and writing on it? Other than the obvious answer of one is a 59 and one an eagle they both have something in common, they were a 1st for that individual! So I say you are well within your right to do something special with that ball if you want to... I can not remember how many eagles i have made in my lifetime but there is one that was very special that I too kept the ball. I was playing in a one day stroke tournament, I was -1 going into the last hole and the leader was in the clubhouse at -2. It was a long par five and pounded a great drive, I then proceeded to hit the worst 3 wood I think I may have ever hit. I hit it so far right that it almost went into some ice plant on a hit about 80 yards right! But I kept my composure and hit one of the best shots of my life, I holed it for 82 yards for eagle!!! It hit about 2 feet right past the hole and spun back in, everybody went nuts and I won the tournament by 1 stroke...

If you thought it was a great eagle and one that is memorable, then enjoy it! Congrats bro!!!

Congrats! I'm still looking to lose the eagle cherry lol. Had a 25 footer a couple weeks ago that burned the lip...

It's pretty rare for me. I've had 2 ever over 100s of rounds. Now, with me concentrating on hitting the fairway my max drive is 50-60 yards shorter so I don't know if another eagle is in the cards. Anyway, I wrote the course, hole, club, distance, and date on each ball and stuck them away.

Nice! The only eagle I've ever had was a mid iron on a par 4. Also a decent-shot-super-lucky-bounce scenario.

I've had quite a few this year. But my most memorable one.

187 yards out. Green on a little bit of an island with water in front.

Pulled a 5 Iron and hit down on it pretty clean. The ball hit about 3 ft infront of the pin, bounced once, checked up, and the 2nd bounce was a slam-dunk into the cup.

Oh, yea, it was a par 3. And it was off the tee box. (My first hole in one) :) thatll sit with me forever.

Luck? No way, sounds like two good shots to me. A great drive and then a nice 3 wood (even if it wasn't perfect as you mention) to tap in distance involves more skill than luck in my opinion. Nicely done.

Congrats! I agree with the Nassau. Don't sell yourself short. A great drive and a great 3 wood takes more than luck!

I've had three or four eagles. Two of which came in similar fashion to yours. I hit my 3 wood pretty well off the deck, so I enjoy going it for it on short par 5s! If the hole is one of those 500 yards or less par 5s and I have a good drive, with a good lie, sitting on the fairway - I always have a nice grin on my face.

Congrats, again. And many more to come, I'm sure!

GREAT JOB! Feels great doesn't it? I had a similar experience but it was a friend who said, "You're NOT going to lay up!!". My putt was a bit longer, but I saw his first. It showed you that if the risk isn't too high, then you CAN hit aggressive shots and make them count.

I marked the ball with date and location including hole. It is on the shelf above me desk.

P.S. " I haven't eagled that hole again, but I have birdied it."

Congrats!

My only eagle was a par 4, holing a 120 yarder. I didn't see it, and didn't know my partners were serious when they started mentioning a round of beers. I lost the ball later, stiffed them on the drinks, and today cannot recall which course it was. However, I bought drinks when I got an ace the following year and they were there for that. Well, that's a second eagle technically.

Last week, I had 220 yards over water for my second shot on a short par 5. Went for it. Dunked it into the lake. Shanked the next shot. Took a seven, while my partner laid up and got par.
