what does a year round memby cost you ( if you dont mind me asking)

Since it is mainly a resort course, most of the players are tourists from up north. Those of us who live within the golf community (there's only about 50 members) pay $1500 a year, which includes free range balls all year. However, if I want a cart, that would cost an additional $20 in the high season and $10 in the low season. But I am too

cheap frugal to do that, even in the summer. I walk and sweat, and sweat, and sweat. I think it is possible to pay quarterly, but I just pay the total at the beginning of the year.

I live in MA, I usually play up until it snows. Last december, we had a few 60's days.

I've been to FL in july before, i can imagine how brutal it can get. Maybe the Carolinas is the perfect place to move then

Absolutely love it - even though I probably shouldve taken the month of January off last year as we did have a couple of sub 30 degree weekends - which I had to play since I had friends down from up north just to play.

I take offense to that Chris

I live in the Pac Northwest which...if it wasn't for the rain, could be a year long golf destination. I usually stop golfing around November or December when the weather starts to drop. It rains quite a bit here but usually its drizzles and we don't normally have too many problems with the greens and fairways flooding but also depends on the course.

I've golfed winter months before and its mild enough to golf and I never get bored of it.

My season is near its end. Maybe a month more if I am lucky. My first round this year was end of March which was surprising, and not on temp greens and it was like 14 degrees out.

I golfed a lot this summer, but wish I had golfed more.

Vancouver may be my next move

The only negative about living in Palm Beach County golf wise is that is gets really pricey to play in the "season" when the snowbirds come down and jam up the courses. In the brutal heat of summer it is cheap, cheap, cheap and you can play some great tracks. For those of you that think Florida is hot, I was up in the S/N Carolina area this summer and it was the worst heat I have ever experienced. At least were I live there is usually a hot oven humid breeze.

Yeah, I know, it is year round golf and I really can't complain. I am a native and would never make it up north. Heck, I don't even know how to layer.

If I played somewhere where you could golf year round, I'd have a hard time maintaining a job and a normal life. I'm not even kidding.

I'm off work all summer. I have to FORCE myself to only touch the clubs 4, 5 days a week to avoid physical and mental burnout.

Florida humidity and feel like I need a shower after 2 holes might do it though. I'd rather be cold than feel like I can't keep my hands dry from ungodly sweat.

Used to live in So Cal and definitely never got tired of it. Now up in Northern Cal where it gets pretty nasty and wet from Dec through May but I will still play every chance I get. I'm gonna treat myself to some killer raingear :)

This winter has been great for golf in Cape Town. Mid-60s, sunny and still. We're just starting spring now and it'll get warmer through the summer, but rarely too hot to play due to the moderating influence of the cold ocean on the Atlantic side. The leveler here is wind -- when the "Cape Doctor" blows out of the Southeast it's time to put away the clubs for a few days and go kitesurfing. Unless you like seeing your drives come back at you.

Other than that, just remember that putts break towards the mountain, vineyards are out of bounds and golf carts drive on the left. Images below are of my home course. There are also some quite different links setups along the two seaboards. I'm not going to get tired of playing here year round.

so i got in about 65 rounds this year

Maybe this is why I can't get consistent. I've played less than 30 rounds this year and hit less than 500 balls on the range.

My equipment:

Driver - Callaway FT3 Fusion (9 degree)
3 Wood - Orlimar Tri-Metal (9 degree)
Hybrids - Bobby Jones (17, 21 & 25 degree)

Irons - KZG XCB 5 - PW

Wedges - Warrior (52 & 56 degree)

Putter - STX Envision

trust me...no consistency here

went from a 2.9, to almost a 6 and recently now a 3.2.....its been a roller coaster of a summer hoping for more consistency next summer

Do you have trouble coming back after the winter layoff, or does indoor practice allow you to hit the ground running?

never touched the clubs in the winter

this will be the first year i will, so yes i spend a good 3 weeks finding my groove again (mostly touch w wedges and the putter) i am hiring a coach this winter and will continue to work w him going into spring/summer as well should make a huge diff - really trying to get to a 1 or better index next yr i got this far alone, but getting under a 3 requires some help that i cant provide myself - need a pro who knows what it takes i am trying to monday qualify for a cdn tour event one day.....maybe next year or the year after that would like to go south for a week too.....well see how much $$ a dude has tho

Good luck, you've done a great job so far with only 5 months a year available out on the course. I just started playing again last year in Buffalo, so I've only spent one winter waiting for spring and golf. I went to the indoor range a couple times, and went to Froghair (restaurant with 8 simulators just outside Buffalo) a couple times as well. Now I've got the weather for 12 month/year golf, but the money is definitely a different story.
