When is it too cold to stop playing golf?

Our home course has the greens covered if it gets too cold. We have had the greens covered for at least half this month already but I will be out there playing tomorrow if the Weather Channel is even close to correct.

I played today in NY. The temp was in the upper 20's with no wind. Some under armor gear a wool cap and it makes for a solid practice round with no one else on the course. 1 drawback was some of the greens were frozen so landing on them was like landing on pavement. Kind of annoying. Wind is miserable. I lived on the water in Long Beach and the Lido course is horrible when windy like hitting into a brick wall.

You should check out Pine Ridge if you plan on playing through the winter. I got out on Monday for $22 with a cart. The greens were in awesome shape but of course that was before the snow and cold hit. If my ankle recovers I probably will play Saturday which calls for upper 30's and low winds.

Na, I purchased my own cover and picked the heater up second hand at a yard sale for like $25 or $30 (like new) they all seem to retail for $80 and up, so I thought it was a good deal. If your winter lasts mor than 3 months, then it's not a bad investment. Covers cost about $100.

When I can't get my tee in the ground it's pretty demoralizing.

Anything under 40º is tough, especially with any wind at all. If it's 40º+ and no wind, I'll be calling every course to check if they're open/frost delayed.

Most local courses around Baltimore offer them both (cover and heater) for an additional $12. Money well spent if you ask me. If I cannot relocate south in the very near future I may look at buying my own heater.

I thought I was going to play through the winter until I actually got on the course and felt first hand what it was like to try to swing a club in 4 degree wind chill. I look forward to March/April.

Yeah I would say 40 is my limit as well.  Anything colder and I just would not enjoy myself.

Today is 35° F in NY and tomorrow should be around the same with about 10 mph winds. Wish I didn't have a bum ankle right now or else I'd be out there playing.

NOW it is too cold, hasnt been above freezing for over a week, last played about 2 weeks ago but hey playing in december isnt too bad.  If it warms up to the 40's in the next couple of weeks ill brave it for 9 holes.  I can stand 45 deg and little to no wind for 9 holes walking, anything colder than that and it just isnt fun.  It snowed here last weekend and the snow and ice still cover the ground as it just isnt getting warm enough during the day to melt off.

If the course is in playable conditions, you'll find me out there on a weekend. I've played in the low to mid 30s before, you just need to make sure you're well covered. However, the usual temperature I play during the year is 45 - 60 degrees. If the spring / summer gets pretty warm, we can get to the mid 70s. It has happened for a 10 day period in the last 2 years

It was light snow and 32 *F (0 *C) here today.  It's suppose to be partly sunny (i.e., mostly clouds) and 40 *F tomorrow.

If I can find a course that is open tomorrow within an hour's drive, I will be playing.

I don't know exactly when it is too cold.... but I sure know that the current temperature ( -11C , around 10 F) is way too cold.

Here in Jersey, I draw the line at 42 F, sunny, with minimal wind. The ten day forecast here says there will be no days above 39. Brutal. I guess I could always start lifting weights and doing some sort of an off-season conditioning program.

Just been down the driving range. Was -5C (23F). Some of the balls had ice on them. Fingers were numb after 40ish balls. Still striking them pretty well and needed to get out the house - going a bit cabin feverish!!

Is Pine Ridge in Coram? I played today at Heatherwood. $19 for 18 walker. It was a nice day on the course today. No wool cap or winter golf gloves. Cold weather layering still needed.

That's just depressing to me.  It reminds me of the 50" of snow that we got last year from two storms all in one week.  The drifting lowed the depth in our yard to about 36".
