Wind...gotta love it

Hit my 7 iron almost 200 yards today and hit my 6 iron almost 150 yards today. Anyone else like playing in the wind? I used to hate it, now I enjoy it. For whatever reason I focus more when the wind is howling.

I'm not a fan. Upwind it can shorten a club 50 yards, downwind it can lengthen one 50 yards. Hitting the green becomes more about luck than ballstriking, at least for me, who is not a very good ballstriker. Not to mention how a drive starting out in the wrong direction can end up two fairways off.

I put wind play in the course management category, and it tends to make me play better (at least more focused). It makes playing on my primary course more enjoyable as it forces you to re-think loft selection (2 weeks ago, I hit a 7-iron into a par-3 on Saturday for a white pin, and then hit a 5-iron on the same par-3 on Sunday for a red pin because of the wind direction and speed). Luckily, I wasn't the first to tee off on Sunday, so I got to see the wind wreak havoc on my playing buddy's shot.

I hit driver, PW into a par 5 yesterday. That was pretty freakin' cool. Thanks, wind! (I made a 4 though...put the wedge to about 20 feet and then missed the putt. Stupid!)

I have hit a 210 yard 8 iron this season onto the green from rough. Firm conditions too.

I had one of my most rewarding rounds on a very windy and rainy day here in Omaha. I wanted to walk in after 3 holes, but started grinding it out in route to a 77 for the day. By the end it was pretty exhilarating to know I did my best despite awful conditions.

Like others have said above, I think wind makes me focus a bit harder on hitting he shots i really need to hit. It's a fun challenge to try and factor in wind from different angles as you select clubs and shot type.

A little wind makes me pay attention, too much wind makes life tough. My approach in wind is to make sure the short game is on because it will be called on quite often!

it's nearly always windy over here.
You've just got to get used to it.

after awhile you learn to use it to your advantage.

I bring a 2 wood with me on really windy days to keep the ball low.

I hit a 235 yard 3 hybrid on one hole and a 140 yard 5 iron on the same day but going different directions, both hit pretty well. I hate the wind

Almost always windy here in New England too, and the closer to the shore you get the worse it is. I've gotten use to it and I don't mind it as much now...when I used to hit the ball sky high I hated it. But as my handicap has come down, so has my trajectory...or maybe that's flip-flopped.

the harder you hit a shot the shorter it will go because of backspin.

your better off clubbing up a lot and swinging slow

Playing in a strong wind will really let you know whether you are striking the ball well. A well struck shot will not be affected nearly as much as an poorly struck one, even if the direction is off.

I used to hate the wind, now I have come to like it. It offers so many different ways to play a shot, and gives a lot a satisfaction if a particular shot comes off, like a punch 5-iron from 150 yards into the wind, or an easy 6 iron from 170 with the wind. Also, deciding whether to "ride" a cross wind, or try to move the ball into the wind. Lots of options requiring some thought on each shot.

I feel that way too. Two days ago I was at the range and it was reasonably windy outside. Unfortuantly, I was hitting straight into the wind.. I was slicing badly, more badly than I've struggled with this entire bloody year. I've been fighting a slight fade recently, so I wasn't sure if my fades were just being wildly exaggerated or if I was actually hitting badly. I eventually gave up and just went and chipped the rest of my balls.

I hate wind. Just feeling it against my body is distracting.

Wind gets in your head and can wreak havoc with tempo, and it makes you overswing. Try busting an 8 iron from 100 yards, and coming up short!!! Yeah, we got wind here.

You shouldn't golf during a hurricane.

I don't really mind the wind since it's an integral part of the game but swirling and gusting winds bother me from time to time since it makes choosing clubs and choosing your line tough. The muni course that I always play at, I can usually tell how the wind swirls since I've played it so much but courses that I do not play often makes it quite tough.
