As I left the course today after playing a fast 9 holes, I couldn't help but wonder if the soon-to-arrive winter break might be much needed....and appreciated. It was a nice day for sure and it was great to be outside. The golf was in-and-of-itself pretty uninspiring. The usual topped shots, mis-hits, and looking for balls in the leaves. It will be nice to divert unproductive golf time back to the gym and sparring ring to regain lost core strength and aerobic conditioning. At least until Spring when I should be back in decent shape and ready to "bang my head against the wall (or tree)" on the golf course again. Anyone else feel like that?

I don't think I look forward to it, but I have found over the years it doesn't bother me to take off the winter months. I pretty much shut down from October - March, regardless of the weather.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

The only thing I look forward to during winter break is going down to Florida for a week and playing a couple courses near my grandparents mobile. Kinda stinks though playing such great courses and wasting it with a rusty golf swing and poor ball striking.

Pretty much from the first snowfall until spring I don't pick up a club other than my putter aside from the week in Florida.

Career Bests:

9 Holes--37 @ The Fairways at Arrowhead-Front(+2)

18 Holes--80 @ Carroll Meadows Golf Course(+9)

Home Course:

1) The Fairways at Arrowhead

2) Mayfair Country Club

Unfortunately, I don't get to play as much as I would like to during the spring/summer/fall months so I always dread the winter months from a golf aspect! Although I do love Thanksgiving, hockey, and Christmas!

My wife does!

I do look forward to winter break, I can still play most of the winter where I live as we don't get more then a few days of snow, but as we are on winter rules and hdncp are shut down, it a bit more mellow and more just about getting outside. I also go down to maybe three rounds per month rather then 3 a week.

I usually play horribly late in the season and can't wait to shut down for the season but this time around I am playing better so I plan on continuing with golf even through the winter.

Yes and no. Yes because that generally means snow in the mountains, and I'll be snowboarding 2-3 times a week. That kills a lot of golf time. No because I really enjoy getting out in the crummier season when you score a nice day and you have the course wide open. I like taking my time and playing some 2 ball, or making a bunch of bets with friends and making a day out of it. A little different than keeping pace with everybody, and winter weather brings out a grittier golfer.

No, not really. I'd love to have a 10-20º winter with no snow and open golf courses.

I'll miss the golf, but what I don't miss is the logistics of traveling to play and practice. In a big city, this wears you down, the commuting and the winter break is relaxing because you're not on the go as much. I also won't miss the crazy hours I have to wake up, 4, 5, 6 in the morning.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

Winter comes but once a year... and it's telling you to get off the course, and into the range to work on your swing in preparation for next season!

Since I've only been golfing since July I can't say I'm looking forward to it, but I do think it will be beneficial for me. I won't be tempted to go to the range or play a round when I should be doing things to improve my game like work on the impact bag and practice putting. I'm hoping to spend alot of time this winter working on maintaining a flying wedge and my putting so by spring I'll have a better foundation to work on the rest of my game.

I agree. I think throughout the year I identify lost of things i could be better at. During summer monhts, Instead of spending some quality time on the range fixing some of my issues I just go out and play again and again and again. Fixing things on the run which never really helps me at least. I look at winter as Training camp. where I can really become a better ball striker and work on techniques that can be harder to do on the course. also this is the time of year i go to get some lessons then take the lesson to the range so that I can develop a feel and relearn some muscle memory.
