Couldn't resist, from this month's Golf Magazine.

Says chest over the ball, but his upper center is behind the ball, or centered.  Nice dorsi flexion of the left wrist too, I'm sure that is how it looks at impact.....

That impact position jumped off the page - didn't read another word of that article.

Thanks for that. I won't be buying Golf Magazine any time soon.

That's a little extreme. It's still an excellent magazine in spite of that one photo.

I never buy golf magazines anyway! ;-) But that is a shocking photo. How can that get by the editor before going to print?!

One of my buddies told me and my friends that taking the club back very outside and taking a giant divot with your driver through impact is the standard for most pros. He was dead serious, too. I found it very funny.

I may merge these posts into this thread eventually, but for now, this qualifies as a "comic" .

Blimey! He's obviously never spoken to an S&T; instructor in his life.

Dave Wedzik said,

    • I wonder how many golfers he has actually taught that turned their hips and shoulders the SAME amount? And modern golf equipment is SO light, etc...yeah no wonder everyone is complaining they hit it too far. I really can't believe I just read any of this. It is embarrassing that golf instruction is still this far away from having any real commonality.

These article clippings are more horrifying than funny. Every time I read a new post on this thread I feel like I'm walking around a corridor and seeing this:

Rick Smith - Golf Digest with Nick Watney on the cover. Tells us to swing farther out to the right to turn hooks into push draws...

BY RICK SMITH

If you frequently hit your driver low on the face, even top the ball, you're probably releasing your wrist hinge too soon on the downswing. You're trying to help the ball get up by making a flipping motion with your hands. It's impossible to generate much clubhead speed doing that.

To create more speed, here's a great swing thought: Rotate your forearms counter-clockwise as you start down, turning the face of your driver to the ground (above). Another good feel is to get the back of your glove pointing down, as if you were going to drag your knuckles along the turf. This move will help you maintain your wrist hinge longer coming down. Remember, power comes from clubhead lag, where the clubhead lags behind your hands until your wrists release at the bottom of the swing.

One word of caution here: Because you're closing the clubface earlier than you're probably used to, you might start hitting hooks, until you adjust your path into the ball. Feel as if you're swinging out to the right of the target. Do that, and you'll turn those left misses into power draws.

Rick Smith, a Golf Digest Teaching Professional, is based at Treetops Resort, in Gaylord, Mich., and Tiburón, in Naples, Fla.

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
