What are your favorites? I've only had a chance to try two different kinds, a Ping Karsten, and an Odyssey sabertooth. I'm thinking of having an affair with another putter, Tracy has been rather flakey lately.

I have the Yes! Golf Tiffany center shaft, and have been very happy with it for the past year+

With Yes! going out of business there are all kinds of GREAT deals on ebay. I've seen many go for around 30 bucks with free shipping from Rock Bottom. I'd like to pick one up but I really like my putting improvements this year and don't want to go backwards. I've messed with what's in my bag a bunch and it seemed to hurt me in the past.

This is one that I've tried. I just never got to try it with a 35" shaft, but I do like it quite a bit...

Rife Trinidad for me...puts an amazing roll on the ball.

I'm constantly temped to buy this putter. I've been searching for a good center-shafted answer/newport-style putter; and this one seems to always call my name. How is the feel?

It feels awesome. Swings so easily and very solid strike of the ball. Takes some getting used to the Roll-Groove Technology. I have had it since August and will be in my bag for a long time.

Ahhh, I can't find a putter to beat my Dual Force Rossie 2 with the Stronomic insert. Face balanced for sure but it is not center shafted. I have been using it for more than a decade (I want to say since '96).

I would agree with this. The feel of the Rife putters is

extremely soft and they have very little loft, so if your greens are anywhere near the slow side you need to be sure to make a nice positive stroke.

I'm not into that style of putter, but if I was, I think I'd at least consider the Frog putters.

Frank Thomas was on the USGA equipment committee for years and has been very outspoken against the "groove rules" being imposed on all golfers. He seems to give really sensible answers to the weekly questions about equipment.

    • Rule 1.2b refers you to a section in the Committee Procedures (Section 5I) that helps explain what a Code of Conduct may (and may not) do.  Defining acceptable behavior (including smoking) and applying Stroke of DQ penalties are certainly within the Committee's authority. That Code of Conduct certainly should be available, either in written form or in a webpage accessible to all.  It may not show up on the "standard local rules" for an organization, the "hard card", as it sounds like its a policy of this particular golf course. Assuming that's the case it should show up on the Notice to Players for this particular event.  If you can't find it, ask someone, send an email, try to find out.   In summary, yes the Committee can DQ (or withdraw) a Player for smoking, even before or between rounds.  But its up to you to go from there, communication is the key here.

    • Hmm... I not sure I completely understand. If the course has a no smoking policy, then he shouldn't smoke at the course.  I'm assuming since you are aware of the policy, it must be written down somewhere.  As far as getting disqualified from the tournament, I would think that would be up to the committee. But it feels like it is within their power to disqualify, so why take the chance?
