I bet as a lot of you know, the golf channel is doing a 12 day academy with some of the best instructors in the game today.

What i dont understand is why they are doing it in november?! When half of the country is freezing and a lot of the courses and ranges are closed! I know they may be doing it right now since they have nothing else to show, but still, they couldnt have squeezed it in myabe in march or april? Just frustrates me a bit that i watch the show and cannot apply what im learning several months away.

What do you guys think?

I think it was 85 degrees today in Jax....not to rub it in lol. I'll be watching TGC when I get home from school tonight.

I've now watched Michael Breed and Butch Harmon. Unfortunately everything is so dumbed down that I'm not really getting anything out of it. Hopefully we can get a little better instruction from Player, Palmer, Nicklaus and Foley. I don't expect much out of Haney.

I think you should drive 1.5 hours south and play on the cape. Pine Hills is bad azz and is in Plymouth.

Its the perfect time.

Everyone is home watching the Golf Channel instead of actually playing.

Waiting out the 2 feet of snow that just dropped on the course....

Golf Channel Academy.

Every night around 7pm or 7:30pm there is a new show. Started yesterday and will run for 12 nights if I recall. Lots of lessons from famous instructors, golfers, etc.. I am recording all of them on the DVR. They will be replayed at midnight I am sure each night. Tune in, could be some good shows.

If you like them, record them and save them for when you can get out and practice.

If they weren't showing it now, we'd be doomed to more reruns of Being John Daley.

It is a good time to work on your swing this time of year. Of course in most of AZ we do that on an outdoor practice facility.

12 days in the month of 12 days...

Good filler...how much Big Break, John Daly, or Golf in America reruns can you watch. I really liked the Tour Pro perspective versus the Teaching Pro points. What Norman said about his Nicklaus tip was a little more refreshing than a guy swinging a club with a bungee cord attached to it.

I bet a large part of the demographic for TGC is Florida, AZ, CA, where the weather has cooled down to be perfect for golf and all the snowbirds are flying in, so it does kind of make sense and they're following up the instructor search.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

I saw some of the Foley one last night. First time I have seen him. He looked more like a computer geek than a golf instructor. But, made a lot of sense.

As others have said, these will all be replayed over and over. You will get several chances to see and apply the principles next spring.

I saw Hank Haney's the other night.

He talked about how Tiger practiced.  He said that one thing Tiger does is practice all nine shot trajectory and direction combinations with all clubs, so low, med, high trajectory with draw, straight, and fade directions.  He said this is a great way to see what really see what your swing is like.

Though I'm guessing other pros do this too, it was the first time I had ever heard someone talk about a pro, any pro, doing this.  Sobering to reflect on that level of skill.

Also, Hank mentioned that before going to the range, one should think on the few things to focus on when at the range, not just "hey, I'm going to hit balls".  That was instructive.

    • Option #2 because I'd add the condition that it's in a tournament. Because that'd mean I'd break par in a tournament. And I already have a hole in one.
    • Hole in one is nice, but those low rounds stick in my memory better. I have two holes in one (and a third on a pitch and putt course which I count as a half). I've shot in the 60s three times in the last 10 years or so and I remember each one pretty well. I'd take the low round.
    • Would You Rather #68: Would you rather make a hole-in-one on a perfectly struck shot, during a round where you otherwise played pretty poorly.  or  Would you rather play well all day and beat your personal best by let's say 3 strokes, but with no eagles.    I'd take option 2.   Although option 1 is always exciting, and rewarding. playing well all day is very exciting because I can also do the opposite.
    • I've got two of them.  So for me it depends. If I'm playing with friends and they know me. I'm taking the hole-in-one. Because they know my game anyway. Let's go for the awesome moment/bragging rights.  If I'm in a tournament I'm taking the low round, because I want to win.  If I'm playing with a bunch of strangers, and I just show up, and get paired up. I'm leaning toward taking the low round. I could leave them thinking I'm better than I am. Plus for me that would be a 73. ... That would be cool.
    • Hole in one is a lifetime achievement, so that.
