Okay, I don't want to sound like a jerk BUT I absolutely HATE the white belt look. I think it is horrible and looks weird. Sorry to those who wear them. I am just not a fan. I am a simple black or brown kinda guy. Anyone else feel the same or oppose?

Have a white J Lindeberg belt that I wear with my JL pants and Nike shorts. Think it looks fairly good without overdoing it. I'm a pants size 30-32 and I think if you are over 34, you shouldn't really be wearing a white belt.

I would agree with the over 34 waist. I am a 34 waist but just really don't like the look. Good thing I am not in charge of golf apparel making and marketing. I think someone on the golf channel said something about the white belt and over a 34 waist, he said the Michelin man comes to mind, ha kinda funny

I have a Nike TW white belt, but I haven't worn it yet.  One of my favorite looks I've seen on Tour is the charcoal pants and light blue shirt.  I have charcoal shorts and a light blue shirt, but I generally wear a black belt with it.  One of these days, I'll have the courage to wear the white belt.  I feel you need to be a good player to wear it (my small waist has to help here, too), and that may be why I haven't.

It sounds strange to say but I really like the strip polo look on the course. Next season will look into picking up a few. Is it okay to wear Adidas golf shoes and a Nike shirt? Are there rules for this? I say this because Nike makes some really nice golf shirts.

YOU CAN'T WEAR A WHITE BELT IF YOUR WAIST IS BIGGER THAN 34".....REALLY?!  Come on seriously?!  I have a 36 waist and I wear a white belt and I normally get comments from the ladies on my attire which includes a white belt.  I think a white belt can be pulled off as long as you are wearing the appropriate clothes to go with it.  These are some of the rules that I follow when dressing:

- Your belt and your shoes should match (no brainer).

- Your hat / visor should either match your shirt or your belt/shoes.

- You wear socks that match your shoes...this means no white socks with black shoes.

- Don't wear plaid shorts with a busy shirt.  I try to wear a solid color with plaid shorts.

These are just the basics...I am sure there are more I just can't think of any.

i think white belts should only be associted with low handicappers

and black belts to mid and brown to high

this way we know how good your game is before we bet on the match......[/sarcasm]

I completly agree with this post. Why in the world do you feel I cant I wear a white belt cause my waist size is a 36" I play hockey and have really big legs so alot of times I have to buy bigger pants just to fit my legs not cause of my waist.

And bro thanks for giving people the basics of matching I have seen so many ppl wear crazy shirts with plaid shorts and white socks with black shoes it look absolutely terrible.

I said I agreed about the 34 waist thing because like I had mentioned I heard an announcer say that anyone over a 34 waist the Michelin Man comes to mind. I think its a funny comment. I personally am not a fan of the look and won't wear a white belt. To each there own.

I associate waistlines in excess of 34 inches being overweight and my friends who don white belts don't look good in them. I find it looks best on slimmer people like Camilo Villegas and Geoff Ogilvy. I don't dictate what you should or should not do so don't know why you guys are getting so worked up over it. I probably put on some golf outfits that you may not agree with but if I think it looks good, it won't matter.

I'm not a huge fan of white belts, or really any fancy belts. They simply don't look good on me. I only have one belt anyways.

I was strictly a black or brown belt guy until a few weeks ago. I wanted a white belt to match my shoes. I am currently a 38 waist and have lost 35 lbs since April. I plan on fitting into the 34's or less by this coming July. Either way you really have to get the whole outfit working to sport the white belt. I have received the Micheline Man comment from one or two guys and laughed it off, cuz Im likely gonna throw something back at them anyways. I was actually thinking about getting a red belt so I can wear black shoes, black or khaki shorts, black Tampa Bay Buccaneers shirt and red or black Titleist hat. You really have to plan out your outfit if your going to go outside the norm of black shorts/belt and solid golf shirt.

This is the outfit I usually wear the white belt with:

I find the whole white belt thing lame. Folks trying to look like the pros on TV. For that matter, I think the pros look lame wearing them. Everyone wants to hit the same driver, use the same shaft, wear the same belt, etc.. as the pros. I think it hurts their golf game and makes them look silly at the same time. The majority of us should not be trying to use the same equipment as our favorite pro, and sure as hell should not be trying to look like them. Like I said, it hurts your game and makes you look lame.

Good one

Truth is, I am just mad because they don't sell white belts with cool belt buckles in size 54

Nah, they are lame. In 5 years most of you will agree.

I am not sure I follow how trying to look like a pro hurts someones game.  I understand trying to play the same equipment might hurt someones game, but the last time I checked wearing a certain type of shirt, short or belt did affect my ability.  Unless there is some sort of research that I haven't seen...I just can't agree with you there.

Just for the record, white belts exist in fashion outside of golf as well.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
