I don't use them but to each his own. On a side note, I bought one of those brushes on a retractable lanyard attached to nylon fishing line stuff a couple of years and have since replaced it with a 5 dollar "maintenance man" lanyard with a retractable chain from the tire section at Wallyworld. I keep my clubs cleaned after every shot and it keeps em looking good, takes about 10 seconds.

Do I know you? Are you a 'Sandtrap Stalker'...........? Kinda creepy dude.....remembering me from a thread 2 months ago...... My iron covers may look g@y but at least I'm not the creepy Sandtrap Guy........

That was actually such a unique series of posts, whenever they were originally made, that there probably isn't a single regular poster on here that forgot it. I personally made the connection immediately. But since you bring it up, aren't you the one who introduced the following into this thread:

"does a plumber cover his pipe wrench?!?!" I've never seen a chrome plated pipe wrench, but either way, I've also never seen a plumber (or anyone who owns or uses wrenches for that type of job) place a chrome plated tool into a padded protective covering before he tosses it into the tool box or tool drawer. A mechanic or instrument technician perhaps, since their wrenches are really expensive, but a plumber? Come on.

HAHA!!! Yeah.....it was a pretty interesting thread indeed.....

I just always thought it was pretty funny how someone can compare a pipe wrench to a golf club.....that's all. When I used to swing a hammer......I tried to take good care of my stuff......drove some nuts but I like to buy my tools once, saves money in the long run! As for where I got the 'pipe wrench analogy'....I got that from some other poster.....hmmmmmm maybe I'm a creepy Sand Trap Stalker too.............

It is hard to get the clubs to rust. I have had a putter outside on my putting green for a month with no signs of rust.

What I don't get is....why is it gay to have iron covers but totally cool to have some ugly ass character has a driver cover?

Anyway, I use the iron covers while I'm riding around. When I'm about to play a round i take them off. I try to protect them as much as possible JUST INCASE I decide to sell at some point.

btw I saw a used set of ap1 irons at the golf store that looked like complete crap from not having iron covers on them. It made me sick to look at the finish so ugly. They were still selling them for like 500

I sported the neoprene head covers last season when I purchased my AP1s. I bought them for this reason alone - because I had heard that the polished finish on the AP1s scratched easily. Well...they do...

Even after I used the headcovers they still looked like crap from hitting dirty balls, driving range, etc etc. So...I stopped using them. Figured they're going to get banged up anyways. That said....if you want to use headcovers....use 'em. If some people don't like them and say they're "gay" - who cares. They are your clubs and if you feel like they protect your investment, then do it. Personally, I found that they only prolong the enevitable. I do still use them when storing my clubs and traveling, though.

HAHAHAHA!!!! I never thought about that but you are VERY RIGHT!!! I get a kick out of people showing up at a course with a giant bird or some other animal on their driver. Or better yet....some 1985 covers with a giant pom pom that their mom made for them.....but that is completely OK and manly. But iron covers to protect the clubs.....that's gay....

BTW people....not to burst your bubble or cross this line but it's golf for crying out loud!! It's not rugby!! If you play golf to look manly and tough......you might want to re-think things a bit..... Odds are a lot of you 'iron cover haters' show up to the course in your nice polyester breathable bright orange shirt, pressed slacks and ride around in a little cart.......again....not all that manly........

HAHA!!!

Sad thing is....those were the days when NFL players actually were tough. Remember years ago a guy can break his leg in 3 places and he'd still walk off the field. Now, a guy sprains a finger and the trainers bring out the cart......

How come this subject never can be discussed without a bunch of morons in here flaming and calling everything gay? Are people in here really not more grown up? Is golf not a gentleman sport, if so, does that not apply in here?

    • The chatter in my brain is when the distance is between clubs since I am pretty weak at shortened backswings, etc. I try to simply decide if being long or short is the better outcome and choose my club based on that and simply not even try for the “real” distance.  For me a full normal swing is what I strive for.
    • I saw this comment made in a golf article... "Most golfers stand over a 4- or 5-iron still negotiating with themselves. They think about how hard to swing, whether they have the right club, if they have the aim correct and more. It’s a lot to deal with and long irons punish the “half-in” golf swing." I am not sure the "most golfers" is correct regarding the bolded part. I can understand if there is a bunker, water, and/or OB that a lot of golfers would be fixated on that. I am not sure that leads to ending up more times there. Pending your level in golf, the variance is so large in outcomes, it could be just with in the expected outcomes. I can understand if have a big lake on the right side of the hole being one of the most terrifying shots for right-handed amateur golfers.  I am not sure many golfers are standing over the ball talking to themselves, "Ok, maybe I should step back and pull the 4-iron. Am I lined up right? Oh, the wind came up, should I swing harder? What am I going to have for dinner tonight, maybe steak. (Joking, somewhat 😛)" A question is that how much chatter do you get while standing over the ball. Are you questioning the everything about your golf shot?
