New Titleist Pro V1 against old Pro V1

I was at Golfsmith this morning and I asked the guy what the big difference was between the new and the old ones. Why pay 20 bucks more at this moment if there is not a significant difference?

The guy told me that they just wanted to make the ball more populair and that they didn't make major changes... As you can image I don't believe that crap! What's the real difference? I like the old ones but why step over to the new ones for more money?

Hopefully someone can help me!

They're $45, just like the last version (though the last version may be on sale until they run out).

I'm intruiged by the new V1x.  I tend to launch the ball low with my driver so I like to play balls that promote higher flight.  I play Bridgestone's e5 specifically for this purpose (plus it's urythane cover provides good spin and it's a hard enough ball for my swing speed).  From what I can tell larger dimples in the ball promote high flight.  The old DT Carry had huge dimples and flew really high for me and was a low cost ball I liked to play (although it flew so high I lost nearly a whole club through the bag).  The e5 has fewer (meaning bigger) dimples also, and the new V1x is also made now to promote higher flight.  I plan on buying a sleeve from the pro shop and giving them a try to see how I like them compared to my e5's.

That's exactly the deal...the old ones are cheaper to move the inventory...what is the difference to the average SandTrapper?  I am sure it is not enough to justify the extra money.

Obviously most golfers won't notice a difference in this years version versus last years, so buying old ones on sale is the better choice.

I am facing the about same question ..... just read my posts on this, sofar I like the Bridgestone 330 RXS, but it is a bit too soft ...... I am lookibg for a ball with the same feel and spin of the Pro V1 in the wedges, but less spin in driving ...... sofar the best option seems to be the Bridgestone 330 S ..... hope to find out soon.

You shouldn't pay much attention to the swingspeed recommendations, it has more to do with preferences, allthough it looks I am compressing the RXS a bit too much.....

Taylor Made Penta TPs. I get a tad more distance out of them.

I bought a sleeve of the new V1x this weekend and played with them.  I liked them.  Durability was good.  I used the same ball for my entire round and it's still easily playable.  Ball flight did seem to be higher as advertised and it's hard to beat it's one hop and stop performance on well struck iron shots.  I don't see myself moving away from the e5, my game doesn't warrent the added expense at this time, but the V1x is a superior ball.

I would save the money and by the ProV's on sale.

Another ball choice would be the Taylormade Penta or TP/Black LDP.  Personally, I really like the TP/Black LDP.  Great ball for the price if you are on a budget.

If you have a chance to look at the webcast, there is more information.  It sounds like Titleist invested in new molding technology to make the cores have tigher tolerances, which will make them more consistent.  They have also done more CFD (computational fluid dynamics) studies on dimple patterns and changed that design.  Most golf ball manufacturers will do that.

I'm using the ProV1X now after using the NXT Tour for a full season.  Durability is about the same which surprised me as most think the urethane covers are less durable.  It tends to fly very similar to the NXT tour but does check up better in long chips and approach shots.  I like them.

However, if you can get the 2010 models cheap, that is always a good approach.

Just picked up some of the new Titleist Pro VIx's. Will be putting them into play today after playing with the Srixon Z-Star X last round. Although there are some improvements to this years ball, I would still buy the old one and use them up while I can as they are still a great ball.

I moved to the ProV1 this year after playing the B330-RX in 2010 and the e6 in 2009. I've been buying up boxes of the "old" ProV1 from my local golf shop (I absolutely love this ball). I did play a sleeve of the 2011 ProV1x during a round but, for me, it just didn't bite as much as the ProV1 although it had slightly more distance.

I still have 2 more sleeves of the "old" ProV1 then I think I'll try a sleeve of the new ones and compare. If I can get more distance without losing the bite, that would be great. Fortunately, folks seem to be buying the new version so the older ones aren't selling out yet.
