What's up with this kid shooting off his mouth about Phil and Tiger. There's no possibility that will get close to tiger and probably not even Phil. If he had an ounce of clews, like Fowler, who is a better player, he would STFU. Paul Casey shot his mouth off a few years ago and it cost him. Once Rory decides on a hair color he can concentrate on playing. He and Poulter should learn about being a gentleman golfer. This isn't college football.

What did he say this time?

The last thing I heard Rory say about Tiger was that he wasn't the huge untouchable superstar Rory thought he was. Nothing wrong with realising that everybody's human and that he has enough talent to eventually compete with him, even if others put Tiger on a pedestal.

Not sure what his hair colour has to do with anything but if it makes you feel better to mock then more power to you.

I wasn't mocking him, just pointing out that saying that tiger and Phil are "done" isn't respecting their records. There's no question that Rory has game but saying anything negative about a fellow player isn't what golf is about. There's no doubt that it seems we have seen the best of Tiger but the new kids need to wrk hard to get close to those .

Do you have some quotes where he says this stuff, and not with a tongue-in-cheek or just to get them fired up?

Rory made a comment this past week but he kind of caught himself before he said something stupid. He said that it was time for the younger generation to really take control of the tour. Then he went on to say Tiger and Phils, paused, Tigers game has fallen off and he believes the younger guys need to take advantage of it. It was a weird interview because he paused a lot and was trying hard to figure out how to word things without saying what he really thinks. I didn't think it was that big of a deal but you could see he just wanted to say he didn't think Tiger would ever regain his old form. He stopped himself from taking a shot at Phil but I'm sure both of them got the point. The interview was on the golf channel and espn had it on their website 2 or 3 days ago.

Presume the OP is referring to this : http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/6267041/27625308

A couple of comments, if you want sportsman to be excruciatingly dull, jump all over them whenever they say anything that hasn't been scripted by their PR and management people. McIroy, Poults, Rose, GMac and Westy have an easy camaraderie and "take the piss" out of each other and anyone who takes themselves too seriously. They would have some fun with the OP. Fowler is a fine player and looks like he is the goods but Rory has won on two tours. He is the better young player at the moment

This is the one I was trying to quote... I did a pretty poor job

I think Rory talks a lot for a guy who hasn't done much himself.

But I'm not gonna blame a guy for talking the talk. I'll wait to see if he can back it up. I have my doubts - I don't like that he's skipping the Players. Tiger has said he doesn't love the course but he plays (always has) in the events with good fields.

I don't want to speak out against people being interesting, saying interesting things, because otherwise you just get Tiger's boring answers.

the game needs some youngsters to come out and say I want to beat tiger and phile even though niether are at the top anymore

Where's the bit where he is "shooting his mouth off"? He's asked a question and he respectfully answers it.

He has no need to be deferential towards Woods, who has really shown himself to be completely lacking in class and humility.  He never suggests that he's going to beat Tiger's record.  Never has. McIlroy acnowledges that Mickelson is still a great player, having won the Masters last year.  The question is about the youth movement and he is part of it. Everything he said was 100% fair and correct.

And if he "talks a lot"  he's also asked a lot, too, remember.

Give me his honest answers above the scripted PR garbage that spews form the mouths of so many well known golfers.

And...he's not having videos put out which are designed to correct a poor public image, unlike some...

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

who says you have to win not to talk. He can have an opinion being an observor of the game. I have no problem with saying the truth. Even gofl channel was saying the same thing during the match play tourniment in there summary of the matches.

Well, the guy is #8 in the world rankings, has won on Tour in the US and against a stellar field in Dubai, and placed 3rd last year in a couple majors.     It isn't like someone near the bottom of the money list such as Jeff Klauk shooting his mouth off.       And I don't think Rory has every really said anything that challenging or offensive to anyone, and he seems to mostly wrap the truthful things he is saying with enough politeness and sensitivity.

I actually find it enjoyable and refreshing to have players show some personality and provide some perspective and opinion.    Unfortunately it seems that the sporting press, regardless of sport, is so focused on digging up the dirt and creating controversy that it is a wonder when any athlete dares to speak his or her mind a little.    With athletes like Rory, one has to imagine that you're constantly barraged by a reporter with a microphone or notepad.   You can either:  (a) say nothing and get branded by the press as uncooperative and aloof; (b) say the usual pablum such as "Well, I really just need to play my game, but my opponent is a good player and I look forward to our match" which tells absolutely nothing about anything; (c) say a little about what is on your mind but make sure you temper your opinions into what is more politically acceptable; or (d) say what is really on your mind and get branded by the press and public as an obnoxious loudmouth.

Tiger usually chooses (b) or sometimes (a), Rory seems to consistently take (c), and Poulter is pretty good at (d).

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
    • So, Brendan Sorsby, Texas Tech transfer QB, was found guilty of sports betting by the NCAA. He admitted to it. He placed thousands of bets over multiple years while at Indiana and Cincinnati. This included betting on his own teams.  The NCAA rules ban athletes from betting on any sport (college or pro).  A retired visiting judge from Tarrant County, Texas has put an injunction on the NCAA ruling. He is a visiting judge because the first judge was a graduate and big fan of Texas Tech, and he recused himself. The judged ruled the following... "Under Curry's order, Sorsby is permitted to play for Texas Tech's 2026 season on the condition that he continues his treatment for a gambling and anxiety disorder and serves a two-game suspension (missing games against Abilene Christian and Oregon State)."  Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly care for the NCAA. That still doesn't mean that a college can choose when or where to say, "Yea we agree to these rules for all our sports, well except in this case." Here is a breakdown from S&W. The Hidden Weapon in Sorsby’s Injunction: How a Lubbock County Court Order Quietly Neutralized the NCAA’s Most Powerful Enforcement Tool - Law Offices of Snell & Wilmer By Ryan J. Regula On June 8, 2026, Lubbock County District Court Judge Ken Curry issued a temporary injunction in Brendan Sorsby v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, Cause No. DC-2026-CV-0791 (99th Judicial District... The main judgement made sense. Sorsby, I am going to have all this harm done to me if I don't get to play. The Judge, I agree. The penalty for gambling is too harsh, so here are all these things you must do, and I will grant this injunction against the NCAA. Basically, an analogy would be when a person goes into court for a DUI and they agree to all these other things to not end up in jail.  What sucks for the NCAA is the NCAA has appealed to Texas’ Seventh Court of Appeals, based in Amarillo. All four justices that preside over the court are graduates of Texas Tech University School of Law. It would be hilarious if all four of them had to recuse themselves 🤣. For those who like to read legal rulings...
