I don't think its important at all to put together a set from just one company.  Having said that, the only non-Titleist clubs in my bag are an Odyssey putter and Cleveland wedge.  This wasn't due to anything besides liking the clubs more than the others I tested them against.

My irons and woods are slightly outdated at the moment.  I would imagine that pitting them against any new clubs, they would get beat my most of the brands out there.  However, when I do choose to buy clubs I always test out as many as I can and just go with what feels best.  So if you like the look of a club, go try it out and compare it to any others you think might compete.

Waiting for summer...

I could probably throw together a decent head to toe bag from any company.

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

Having done the one bag thing 3 or 4 times (except for putter), I wouldn't recommend it. I don't think it's smart for your game.

All the OEMs are very good, but I've always favored Ping, Mizuno, Titleist. It all depends on your game.

At the same time, a one bag OEM is not recommended. Look at the pros -- when they're not sponsored, they play several different brands. Some have irons only contracts, or an 8 club contract ... Look at Luke Donald, he mixes it up - TM Driver and Fairway, Mizuno Hybrid, Irons, and Wedges, Odyssey Putter.

So mix it up, just like the pros.

It makes your bag more interesting, too.

That is a tough question and I have never done this.  But I think if I had to select a single manufacture I would select PING.  But at the moment I only own two PING clubs, a driver and putter and I am not currently using the putter.  But they seem to have good products for golfers of various skill levels so you could do well with their clubs.

I would say TaylorMade for me. I haven't hit a club from them I haven't liked. That's probably why aside from my Scotty putter, the rest of my clubs are TM.

I would go with Titleist, even if it wasn't with all their new stuff. I'm still using a set of DCI 962 which are from the late 90's.....

But if you're talking about filling your bag with one brand, it's gotta be Titleist - FOR THE BALLS!!!!!

I would have to go with Callaway. Most but not all of my clubs are Callaway.

  • My TM Raylor would probably get replaced with an old Warbird 5W, reshafted with the Fuji E360. Warbird had a deep-draft sole similar to Raylor.
  • Would probably drop from 4 to 3 wedges, and put 4i back in bag. Wedges = Iron set  PW + {52* and 58*, either Jaws or recent X-Forged.} Callaway GWs have more bounce than I like; maybe a lesson would overcome the problem.
  • Putter: Would probably go with Odyssey Black Series #1 or White Hot Tour #1. Have tried both, and they felt quite similar to my Ping Pal (vintage 1970s).
  • Ball: Callaway Hot Bite.

Have considered recent Callaway stand bags as replacement for my current SunMountain. But if Cally doesn't sponsor me, I'd probably stick with SunM to be a contrarian.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Titleist.  I am one Scotty Cameron Squareback away from completion.  Just bought the 710CB irons today.  Dont think I can drop three hundy on a putter though, so it looks like my anser 2 will have to suffice.  Maybe I can put some sort of decal on it.

As much as I love Mizuno irons I'm not really carzy about their drivers, wedges or putters. So if I was going to have just one brand in my bag, which will never happen, I'd go for this years Nikies.

I have last years 420cc drivers and really like it; I have last years wedges and really like them; this year I bought the full cavity back 2i (which I think is just phenominal), I just bought a pair of Niki Bandons, hell I'm damn near a waking Niki advertisment already!

"Nikies"?.  IS that a Hireko brand?

I've been trying for a couple years to find wedges that could bounce my 1994 Mizuno Pros out of the bag. 588s are close. I've never tried the newest Mizunos which seem to get mixed reviews. Sort of like some of the newer Clevelands CGs. For every guy who likes them, 2 more guys (including me) don't.

I would go with Taylormade. I started out a few years ago with a budget set of Adams irons and an Adams driver. I bought 2 Adams hybrids to go along with that at the time too. So I guess at that point I was an Adams man :) But I could not hit that driver for anything. So I bought a TM Burner driver and seemed to hit it pretty good. In fact it became one of my best clubs, sadly I only use it 13-14 times a round. So this year when I was looking for a new, better set of irons I went with TM Burner Plus. Very happy with them after a few weeks. Still have the Adams hybrids in the bag. Not in any big hurry to replace them at the moment.

In the bag:

3/4 Hybrid: :adams: Idea a205
Irons: :tmade: Burner Plus

Same for me.  But thank goodness that is not a requirement to play golf!  IMHO, Taylormade makes the best woods, Mizuno the best irons, and Scotty Cameron the best putters, so I play them.

i'll second this.  been using the 770CFEs for the past four years and i've tried several different Wishon clubs and always had good results.

All Wishon gets my vote.

    • Day 470 - 2026-01-13 Got some work in while some players were using the sim, so I had to stick around. 🙂 Good thing too, since… I hadn't yet practiced today until about 6:45 tonight. 😛
    • That's not quite the same thing as what some people messaged me today.
    • Day 152 1-12 More reps bowing wrists in downswing. Still pausing at the top. Making sure to get to lead side and getting the ball to go left. Slow progress is better than no progress.
    • Yea, if I were to make a post arguing against the heat map concept, citing some recent robot testing would be my first point. The heat map concept is what I find interesting, more on that below. The robot testing I have looked at, including the one you linked, do discreet point testing then provide that discrete data in various forms. Which as you said is old as the hills, if you know of any other heat map concept type testing, I would be interested in links to that though! No, and I did say in my first post "if this heat map data is valid and reliable" meaning I have my reservations as well. Heck beyond reservations. I have some fairly strong suspicions there are flaws. But all I have are hunches and guesses, if anyone has data to share, I would be interested to see it.  My background is I quit golfing about 9 years ago and have been toying with the idea of returning. So far that has been limited to a dozen range sessions in late Summer through Fall when the range closed. Then primarily hitting foam balls indoors using a swing speed monitor as feedback. Between the range closing and the snow flying I did buy an R10 and hit a few balls into a backyard net. The heat map concept is a graphical representation of efficiency (smash factor) loss mapped onto the face of the club. As I understand it to make the representation agnostic to swing speed or other golfer specific swing characteristics. It is more a graphical tool not a data tool. The areas are labeled numerically in discrete 1% increments while the raw data is changing at ~0.0017%/mm and these changes are represented as subtle changes in color across those discrete areas. The only data we care about in terms of the heat map is the 1.3 to 1.24 SF loss and where was the strike location on the face - 16mm heal and 5mm low. From the video the SF loss is 4.6% looking up 16mm heal and 5mm low on the heat map it is on the edge of where the map changes from 3% loss to 4%. For that data point in the video, 16mm heal, 5mm low, 71.3 mph swing speed (reference was 71.4 mph), the distance loss was 7.2% or 9 yards, 125 reference distance down to 116. However, distance loss is not part of a heat map discussion. Distance loss will be specific to the golfers swing characteristics not the club. What I was trying to convey was that I do not have enough information to determine good or bad. Are the two systems referencing strike location the same? How accurate are the two systems in measuring even if they are referencing from the same location? What variation might have been introduced by the club delivery on the shot I picked vs the reference set of shots? However, based on the data I do have and making some assumptions and guesses the results seem ok, within reason, a good place to start from and possibly refine. I do not see what is wrong with 70mph 7 iron, although that is one of my other areas of questioning. The title of the video has slow swing speed in all caps, and it seems like the videos I watch define 7i slow, medium, and fast as 70, 80, and 90. The whole question of mid iron swing speed and the implications for a players game and equipment choices is of interest to me as (according to my swing speed meter) over my ~decade break I lost 30mph swing speed on mine.
    • Maxfli, Maltby, Golfworks, all under the Dicks/Golf Galaxy umbrella... it's all a bit confounding. Looking at the pictures, they all look very, very similar in their design. I suspect they're the same club, manufactured in the same factory in China, just with different badging.  The whacky pricing structure has soured me, so I'll just cool my heels a bit. The new Mizuno's will be available to test very soon. I'm in no rush.
