Something has to give with Phil Mickelson at some point. He played an iron (or a driving iron as the commentators on usopen.com keep insisting) off the tee of the 494 yard par-4 11th, the widest fairway on the course. He has absolutely no confidence with his driver.

i would love to see rory win by double digit strokes. i think it's evident he's got more talent than his two playing partners, which is saying a whole lot because they are DJ and Phil.  if anything will bring the tiger out of hibernation and get him determined again, it'll be somebody out beating his records who can stick around when no one else can.

I simply can't believe just how low Rory [i]could[/i] be right now. His putts on 12 and 13 just missed. There have been others as well. It's almost like he's playing to 5 gallon buckets. Impressive and entertaining play thus far. I hope he keeps it up.

Rory is a machine! Check out that approach on 14! The one on 12 shouldn't be overlooked either. That one took balls and he pulled it off. He's making Phil and DJ look like a pair of average club pros.
