Though I think the 'lockout' was a ploy to stay in the news, football is back.  I predict that this will be a banner year for Louisiana football.  LSU looks mighty strong and if they can get to the "BCS" title game, it'll be a virtual home game.  As for the Saints, I don't think Reggie Bush is a priority to keep, but it would be nice to have him at a reduced rate, say 3-5 mil.  If they can get that and shore up the SS position, I can see them winning a tough NFC South.

Football was never really gone, just the NFL portion.

If there's no NFL, try some of the college offerings. Small-college games with good teams can be a lot of fun.

Locally, McKendree University is shifting from NAIA to Div. II. Regularly made the NAIA football playoffs. Game ticket is $5, plus $2 for a brat and $2 for a drink. And parking is free!

That's $9 for the day, about the price for a beer at the Jones Dome when the Rams play.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Yeeehaw! The game played primarily with the hands but named after the feet is back!

In the UK when we say "football" we mean the game played with the feet.

There are more players in the NFL who are limited to primarily feet than the are in all of soccer.
In the UK when we say "football" we mean the game played with the feet.
I realize you're being cute here, but you should know that the term "soccer" originated in the UK to refer to "association football." And, for that matter, all the games that go by "football" - NFL, CFL, rubgy, soccer - all originated as the same game, "football." As opposed to sports not played on the feet, such as polo. It's silly to insist that one is "real" football and the other isn't. You have a good matchup this year coming to the UK if you're interested -- one of three countries that the NFL will play in this year. (I hope this doesn't come across as mean-spirited; I just have a more or less standard response to the jokes you made)

Actually I was just being an arse.

The only football (soccer) I ever watch in the UK is when England play and I get that short-lived "we might do well this year" feeling swiftly followed by "Oop no, we're still a waste of space; wish I'd not bothered"

Regarding football (NFL) I actually used to love watching it as a youngster and t was on in the early hours of the morning (Dolphins fan solely because I liked the colour) and I'd religiously buy all the Madden games when they were released. I even debated about going to a game last time I was on a business trip to Philly but alas it wasn't the season for it from what colleagues told me.

Exciting time to be a Jets fan. It has been for a few years actually.
I'd be quite surprised if the Jets were able to do much. They're already over the cap. Sanchez was talking about people (himself included) taking pay cuts to be able to sign guys, but I don't think that'll do enough, and it would be kind of odd to see guys take a pay cut after just sitting out a 100+ day lockout. I suppose they'd rather see they're lost money go to other players than owners though. I'm a Patriots fan though, so I could be biased. If by some miracle the Jets do sign Holmes, Edwards (I think his contract is up....) and Asomugha, just give 'em the title. No one will beat them. Last I heard the Pats were about $7 million under the cap, enough maybe to pick up a few journeymen, maybe a receiver, a DE, and a few linebackers. The only way to get Nnamdi (who would be amazing next to Devin McCourty) would be to cut come serious cap, maybe by releasing/trading some of their overpaid OL guys and getting rid of Leigh Bodden. Don't really see it happening though, but one can hope. Asomugha seems to be one of the nicer/smarter guys in the league.

They Jets never, and are still not after giving Holmes the highest guaranteed money for a WR over the cap.

As of 11:28pm on Wed its between the Jets and 49'ers. Maybe the Texans too. The rumor offer the Jets gave this morning was 12 million. Asomugha is sleeping on it all.  Before last night i would have laughed at the thought. About 7 hours ago i really thought it would happen. Now, i still think its going to happen.

And nobody, especially Tom Brady is going to do **** against us.

The Pats just traded a 2013 fifth rounder for Albert Haynesworth. Kind of an odd move, but they now have a front line of Hayneworth, Ty Warren, Vince Wilfork, and Marcus Stroud. Sweet. I'd expect to see them play more 4-3, which they already play a bit, especially because they only have one good MLB.

In 9 years Fat Al has had one good season (a contract year) and refuses to play in a 3-4.

Over the cap?

Quote:
"The Texans are "in the mix" for free agent Nnamdi Asomugha, sources tell the Houston Chronicle.
The problem for Houston is that Jets are now reportedly nearly $10 million under the cap -- and that's before they restructure contracts. It's going to be hard to pry Asomugha away from Broadway and coach Rex Ryan if they can't even offer the most money. The Texans may be better off turning their attention to free agent Johnathan Joseph. "

I dont know how we do it, but i love it.

I don't know how the Jets get so much hype either!

Signing Ochocinco is a move I have alot more confidence in--- but I like what there doing this year

When a guy is reported to be begging the QB to go there, i feel like he won't be much of an issue.  He'll work a lot harder since he'll be in a desirable situation.  Back to my team, I'd like to see the Steelers make a run for Plaxico, but I'm not sure how likely that is.  We already have one deep threat with Mike Wallace, but having another big play guy could open up the box for Mendenhall.  Here's to another great season for the black and yellow!

Jets get the coverage because Ryan is their coach and demands attention.  It's because of him guys like Holmes, Burress, and Cromartie want to play for him even if it's for less money.  The Jets and Pats will be fighting it out all year for top spot in the AFC.

    • Hole 6, 185 uphill par 3, wind out of the right. I hit a 7 iron to 5-FT left of the pin. The ball landed about 185.5 yards. I drained the putt for a birdie, and most likely a skin.  2nd place is more of a best swing made. 110 yard wedge shot, where I did what I wanted in the back swing and downswing.  I hit a 75% partial wedge 95%. It was flushed, flighted, and beautiful to watch fly over the green. 🤣. I will need to redial in the wedges sometime. Since I am making an effort to make my former 3/4 swing length my full swing length.
    • Is that like "the longest yardstick you can find"? I don't have Airtags but I'd call all of them Airtags too.!
    • Yea, that makes sense.  I remember an Open tournament when they brought out the wind meter one day because balls were being blown around the green. I think it was 45+ sustained, which probably means 60 mph gusts.  I think for the most part, it isn't something that needs to be taken into account.  Also, a golf ball is designed to optimally move through the air. It has better aerodynamics than a sphere.  Thanks for your expertise on this. That makes sense. I know about how wind diminishes the lower in height you go. I didn't know it went near zero at the ground. I deal more with tall structures (utility poles), and we have to take into account height and impacts of wind on the pole. A bit of experience, but wasn't sure how close to zero, non-impactful it was on the golf ball on the ground.
