The system works the way it does and I don't have a problem with that. Based on his performance the last years, Tiger is not a top player anymore. Everyone knows he can play good golf, but so can Ernie Els and Vijay Singh. They just don't do it anymore.

Luke Donald was the leader when the measurements were taken for the research that generated the new putting statistic.  Second place was:  Tiger Woods.  Luke's always been a good putter.  Tiger's been really good too, not quite as good as Luke, but he makes up for it in other areas.  When he was dominating, he was hitting the ball like no one else, scrambling for pars like no one else, and sinking putts like no one else.  That just takes some sheer talent.

Since Eric isn't responding, an as an unabashed Tiger fan (him doing well is good for golf, and I'm in the golf business), I have to ask: You didn't say "Iacas, which one is last PGA sanction tournament that Tiger will play? If the Fry's is the last one, I expects $100 from you on no later than coming Sunday evening (if he ever make a cut). and upon receiving the bet prize, I will double it for next year. Are you in?"

You did. It was a good chunk of your post.

He hasn't "come back" this year. I don't think Eric could predict that he'd injure himself, either, and I fully expect that he'll pay up. If you want to keep predicting failure, go ahead. I'm going to take the opposite view, because it's good for golf and my wallet.

Cry me a river. Other golfers misbehave too. I know there's video of Ernie throwing his driver at his caddie, and Ernie's one of the mild-tempered ones.

Golf is boring. Tiger isn't boring, whether he's playing well or poorly.

Tiger, despite telling us that he would get back to his Buddhist roots (whatever that means) and would respect the game of golf, continues his angry, petulant behavior.

Maybe he needs to behave that way in order to play good golf. Maybe when he stop throttling his behavior and begins playing with emotion - GOOD AND BAD - he'll begin playing better.

I agree with you except you can't have special rules for just the Top 20 so let's apply it to every PGA and European Tour player just as they do in tennis.

But you know what? I agree with you here.

I lot of people have suggested the PGA should act up and start fining/warning players for acting this way (they don't stand for swearing or tantrums or racquet abuse in tennis anymore)

Woods would be on the top of this list.

And I wouldn't expect this from any player in the Top 10, 20 nor from a player on Tiger's level who is ranked lower...Garcia, Watson, Levine, Hoffman, Daley, Sabbatini, O'Hair - names that spring to mind immediately when 'acting-the-jerk' on the golf-course.

And by the way, I can say it til I'm blue in the face - I don't hate Tiger at all...if I did, I wouldnt have shook the guy's hand or wished him luck, pre-driving range on Day #1 at St Andrew's in 2010...but as usual, a lot of posters miss the point of my posts - it's not actually him my tirades are aimed at...

How impressive was that display from Luke Donald yesterday?! With a bit of luck, the US golfing folk will now remove their heads from their navels and accept him as the clear number one player in the world. Yes, he may be boring a la Nick Faldo, but like Sir Nick he gets the ball in the hole in the fewest number of shots and that's what this game is all about.

It takes a lot to get me worked up about something, but I have had a bee in my bonnet about this issue for a while now. This is not an us v them debate or a bash the US rant, simply a slap on the wrist to US golf journalists urging them to remove their Tiger goggles and start reporting the facts and not what was or could have been.

Congratulations Luke!

Luke Donald doesn't move the needle in the U.S. When he brings in more viewers/readers than Tiger Woods, they will talk more about him instead of Tiger. Tiger is one of the most famous and recognized athletes in the world. Very few people in the U.S.(outside of golfers) would know who Luke Donald is. Nearly everybody knows who Tiger is. Journalism isn't in the business of being a non-profit.

FTR, I think, and have said that Luke is the best in the world.

SINGAPORE (AP) Tiger Woods believes he's ready to return to top form after shaking off injuries that have undermined his performance for the last two years.

The former world No. 1 says that he has been practicing frequently and getting his playing instincts back.

"The last couple of years, I haven't really played as well as I'd like," Woods said Thursday during a one-day stopover in Singapore. "I made some changes in my swing and I've obviously been hurt and that kind of added to it.

"Now I'm healthy, playing again, playing more and playing consistently."

Woods hasn't won a tournament since 2009 and has fallen out of the top 50 for the first time since he was a 20-year-old rookie in 1996. Woods played at the Frys.com Open last month and tied for 30th. He is scheduled to play in the Australian Open from Nov. 10-13.

Woods chalked up his recent struggles to the "cyclical" nature of a golfer's career.

"You look at everyone's career, you have these ebbs and flows," he said. "We don't play well all the time."

I'll believe it when I see it. He's been saying the same bull for a few months now.
