This is what my brother sent me about his round yesterday.

A very ordinary golfer who I didn't know joined our group at the last
minute.

1st hole (par 4) - duck hooked into the out of bounds fence;

2nd hole (par 4) - duck hooked into the out of bounds fence;

3rd hole (par 4) -duck hooked into the out of bounds fence;

4th hole (par 3) -skulled it through the green onto the next tee;

5th hole (par 3) - hole in one;

6th hole (par 4) - duck hooked into the out of bounds fence...

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

What's funniest for me is that I know how my brother would have reacted.

"Hey guess what. I made a hole in one."

"Really? Wow!"

"Yep."

"What did you shoot?"

"Shut up."

Yeah  - not an airport, but a major road, the first half dozen holes skirt right around the edge.

That is crazy! If I was playing like that I probably wouldn't have even made it to the 5th hole without my head exploding!

"What'd you shoot?"

"I had a hole in one!"
"What's you shoot?"

"Shut the hell up dude, I hade a hole in one!"

"Dude, what'd you shoot?"

"I had a 39...after 6 holes. ;)"

I had a day like that.. I holed out an eagle on a par 5 in that round. That was fun.. But still, i am not sure a hole in one would made me happy.. Honestly i think hole in ones are wasted on the terrible..

Funny... he was probably trying to hit a draw using "Brandel's ball flight laws."

Anyways, that hole in one though would be enough to keep me coming back.

This is me too.  My only eagle in the last 3 years came this last May, but unfortunately it happened on a round where my final score was 94.  Sort of felt like a total waste of a good hole.

That's almost unfair. How many guys have are there < 10 HDCP without a HIO? Who'd this guy have to suck up to to earn one? :-P

haha, i've seen situations like this.  a friend of a friend played along with us a couple of times in years gone by, and this guy was at least a 25 handicap.  so one day, on the first hole, he manages a fairly decent tee shot, and then manages to hole his approach.  so he's starting off at -2, and he's pretty pumped.  "maybe this is the day i break 80!" he says.  next hole, double bogey on a par three.  then a triple.  i don't remember what came after that, but if memory serves, he didn't have any more pars or birdies, let alone eagles, for the rest of the round.  poor guy.  golf is a cruel mistress.

A guy I played with a few years ago told us his sad story.  He had played all of his adult life without ever sniffing an ace.  A few years earlier his wife decided that she wanted to start playing, so he worked with her on the range and short game practice area, played a few times on the par 3 course, then the big day came when he felt she was ready to play a regulation 18 holes.  She hit the ball ok, but was still very short with all clubs.  They got to the Par 3 17th hole (125 yards for the ladies, slightly downhill), and she hits driver, the ball bounces in front of the green, rolls up, hits the flagstick and drops in the hole.  He said that while he was happy for her, he almost sat down and cried.  First time on a full course and she makes an ace.  They weren't even keeping score for her, but she still marked the 1 on the card and saved it with the ball.

That was what it was supposed to be, but I can't edit my post now. Eventually I'll learn to stop using angled brackets in my posts... :doh:

I have a good deal of terrible rounds..... hehehe. However, what makes me want to quit is not my bad score.... That is improving, and at least on the range I can feel myself improving; just don't have the confidence on the course....

The thing that makes me want to beat my golf bag with my 9 iron is when I watch someone else.... I've got a decent swing, but on the course I get all messed up mentally and I can't seem to get many good shots. Probably nerves and my pressuring myself to hit a good shot... Well I make my shot, and then the other guy steps up to make his. He takes a swing at it and blam! Straight down the fairway. Not very far, but straight....

The thing that makes me want to destroy my clubs is his swing. Back swing is stiff, arms almost unmoving, stops 1/3 of the way back, then literally a swat at the ball. It looked like an extremely exaggerated putt stroke. Here I go with a decent swing that I know can produce shots far better, but on the course I don't and he gets decent shots. It makes me want to take out a shotgun and blow the clubs to hell! :p
