Not golf related, but I see trees in the background with green leaves.  Montreal is pretty close to where I live (north), and we do not have any leaves yet.

Yeah, it's FINALLY summer. Took long enough FFS!

anybody have any feelings on the tilt of Jasons hips?  like maybe if they turned on a more angled plane then the upper body doesnt move so UP?  and keeps his pivot more centered?

Just when I think it's summer in Ohio, another cold blast comes through.

Keep working on the swing. It will come.

Looks like I got a LOT of work to do. I know my priority piece can fix this, but I just haven't captured the right feel...

Working with the ball WAY forward right now because that's how I started out in Erie. Just can't seem to get my upper centre under control. Drifts forward on the backswing and dives forward on the downswing. Need to think of my head as being pinned in place and almost feel like it's the centre of my rotation and everything turns around it...may have to quite my job so I can focus on practice. :-P

@Ernest Jones , I have a feel (that has worked for me), to stop my head moving forward in the downswing.  I let my head rotate slightly to the right on the backswing, and try to "feel" like it stays rotated to the right somewhat coming down.  Might work for you.

Edit:  Although my head actually does move forward somewhat as well.  On second thought, maybe it does not work so good. :hmm:

Make slower swings and really concentrate on keeping that head steady while getting those hips to slide forward. When it doubt slow things down!!

I couldn't agree more. When I was working on key 1 I was even talking slow practice swings without a club looking in a mirror. Just keep grinding you will get there.

It's amazing how well that works. I think back to a Bestie Boys song.

Hallelujah!!

I'm not out of the woods yet, but things are starting to settle down again. Didn't see any improvement on the score card but I started to get back that nice, high, penetrating ball flight again. Nothing feels better that seeing that trajectory finally come back after weeks of crappy, low hooks and slices.

Video from this morning, slowly getting better.

Erie on the left, this morning on the right.

Here I can see that I may be over turning a bit too much for my talent and flexibility. Not sure if that lead knee flexing towards the ball is an issue or if it's contributing to my head moving forward.

At impact things look much better, or at least closer to my Erie swing. It could still be better.

What I'm working on with slow motion swings and full swings:

  • Trying to feel like my backswing is stopping at A3, it's not but that's the feel. I do much better with a compact, controlled swing.
  • From the top, my priority piece, ripping my lead shoulder up and open as fast as I can
  • Once the shoulder move has initiated the transition, squeezing the elbows together on the way down. I'm not really sure why, but this move seems to really help my sequencing and feels like it keeps my swing working outwards instead of just swiping across and getting those wimpy little pulls and banana balls.

All in all, things feel much better. I know the above sounds like too many swing thoughts but on the course I usually make a slow practice swing with all those thoughts and then make my real swing with just one, squeeze the elbows.

Looks much better!

Re: the bolded stuff. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but when the elbows separate, the wrist angles get thrown out really early. Like, in people who really flip, you'll see the elbows very far apart at impact and afterwards.

But whatever you're doing now, keep doing it! :-)

I might have to borrow that elbow squeeze thing. I've been trying to focus on keeping my arms tighter to each other and haven't as much of a dolphin swing.  Does this help to keep the right hand from pushing through the swing?

There are a number of pieces in the swing that help prevent the trail wrist from bowing/palmar flexing too soon: steady head, weight forward, feeling like it's bending the other way (cupping or dorsiflexing), swinging on a shallower plane, extending the pelvis or spine more, etc.

But keeping elbows together is a super old school tip. Hogan's Five Lessons talks about it:

This alone doesn't cure it, but it's just one tool in the tool box if you will towards improve it.

Here's @mvmac hitting balls with a ball of some kind between his elbows. He's not working on what we're talking about, but keeping the ball in place throughout the swing can help someone whose separate:

PS- sorry for the hijack, EJ :-D

EDIT: I love how Furyk exists

Was the first guy I thought of, but there are others who play from a punch elbow position and do so quite well. Not everyone has to be pitch elbow. You start to think too much in a box if you go down that road.

True, true. Tons of great punch elbow players out there.
