Yes, it's pretty fun. [quote name="TitleistWI" url="/t/55815/tiger-woods-pga-13/36#post_691532"]

Can you even play this year's version with just the controller?

I pre-ordered the master's edition at gamestop yesterday. It comes with 6 extra courses, so easily worth the extra $10. From watching some of the demo video's on youtube along with EA's own demo's, this looks like the best version yet. The last few versions have been essentially the same game with a few small changes here and there. The only reason I bought last year's was for Augusta. Otherwise, I would have skipped it.

The guy's at EA seemed to listen to the people in their forums and made a lot of changes that were suggested. The new swing style looks really awesome. I hope they kept the expert style putting stroke from previous versions that doesn't have any visual meters. Can't wait till Tuesday!

I too pre-ordered the collector's edition, which is available on Xbox 360 this year, as opposed to last year when it was only on PS3. Still kind of pissed that if you want all of the courses, you're out something like $100.

How can you putt without the meter? I've tried, but find it impossible. The little joystick on the controller is so small, so the room for error is miniscule. I like to turn off as many visual aids and spin control and all that, but I'd shoot 100 without the putting meter. I could shoot lower in real life haha

Well, on the hardest mode, it's the only option. I've used that method for most versions of the game and prefer it to the meter. As I recall, TW 2012 had that annoying circle to tell you where to aim. That would drive me up a wall to use.

I'm playing on Xbox btw. Perhaps it's different on playstation.

It's the same, I just can't do it. I blow putts 50 feet by the hole when I don't have the meter. I have no way of knowing how far back I'm taking the putter.

Ah yes the "green circle of lies" I swear I would only make like 1 out of 3 putts using that circle. I'm not sad it's gone...

Glad they upped the difficulty. I remember shooting 15-16 under previous years

Is everyone on Xbox or PS3 for this?  I'd like to join a TST Country Club, but I'm only on PS3 these days the little bit that I get on.  I still have a challenge on the hardest level on last years TW with the putting, there's gotta be a way to improve it.

I started an online country club on EA Sports' website (pretty sure it's cross-platform, I'm not positive), it's called "The Sand Trap CC." I would have spelled out country club, but I ran out of letters, and the logo is dumb but it's one of the few golf-related ones they had, and I tried to get the colors at least close.

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/122/1221576p1.html The review of Tiger 13 on IGN. Not very good, but I suspect the reviewer isn't an avid golfer and likely looks at it differently than we would. It's kind of like NASCAR games, I always enjoy them and the reviewers always seem to think they suck. One concern I do have is how so many of the courses are locked, and you can't even buy them as DLC. I suspect they'll add that ability in the future, because what company doesn't like more money. That said, I'm glad to see joining an online CC will help make that progression faster. Looking forward to getting this today and hopping online.

Most of the complaints about the new "Total Swing Control" is what's going to make this game so awesome. I guess if you don't know anything about golf and bought the game, you might be at a disadvantage (which this reviewer appears to be). But, I think most of the people who buy this game are golfers and will enjoy the control. This version has addressed to much that the people who buy the game every year have been looking for.

2.5 hours until I go pickup my copy.

Here is another review, giving the game a lot more credit.

Just picked up the game about 30 minutes ago, someone should start a new thread so we can get a TST Country Club going. The Country Club feature seems pretty neat.

    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
    • Day 580 - 2026-05-04 Played eight holes. Sometimes golf kicks you in the nuts. 😉
    • I work with a lot of golfers who want more shaft lean at impact, who currently have AoAs that range from +2° to -2°, and who love to see the handle lower and more "in front of their trail thigh" from face-on at P6. And a lot of these golfers try to solve the issue by working on the downswing. They do something to drag the handle forward. Or they just leave their right thigh farther back so the same handle location "looks" farther forward. Or they move the ball back in their stance. Or they push themselves down into the ground to get the handle lower and increase (decrease?) their AoA (to be more negative). The real fix is often to get wider in the backswing. To do LESS in the backswing. To hinge less, fold the trail arm less, abduct the trail arm less. I had a case of this over the weekend. Before, the player had 110° of trail elbow bend, "lifted" his trail humerus only a few degrees, etc. The club traveled quite a bit around him, and he tended to "pick" the ball from the fairways. In the "after" swings below (which are mild exaggerations — this golfer does not need to end up at < 70° of elbow bend. These were slower backswings with "hit it as hard as you normally would" intent downswings), you can see that he bent his elbow about 70° instead of 110° and lifted his right arm an extra ~15° or more. You can't see how much less this moved his hands across his chest (right arm abduction), but it was also decreased. His hands stayed more "in front of" his right shoulder rather than traveling "beside" them so much. The two swings look like this: The change at P6, without talking about the downswing one little bit (outside of him telling me that he tends to pick the ball), is remarkable: Without 110° of elbow bend to get out (which he gets to 80°, a loss of 30°), the golfer actually loses slightly less elbow bend (70 - 50 = 20), but delivers 30° less elbow bend, lowering the handle and letting the elbow get "in front of" the rib cage… because it never got "behind" or "beside" the rib cage. If you look at this video showing the before/afters of P6, you'll note the handle location (both vertically and horizontally) and the shoulders (the ball is in the same place in these frames). This golfer's path was largely unaffected (still pretty straight into the ball, < 3° path and often < 1.5°), but his AoA jumped to -5° ± 2°. I've always said, and in talking with other instructors they agree and feel similarly, that we spend a lot of time working on the backswing. This is another example of why.
