I've heard that some courses are opening up next week in the Twin Cities (MN). This one claims to be opening next Tuesday, but they also posted this video on youtube on the 6th

LOL, that snow better get melting.

Regardless, the weather forecast is for very warm temps starting on Saturday, so courses will be opening early here. pumped!

Being from Maine, the golf season seems to be shorter than several other places, but we were pretty lucky this winter! I actually played January 1st, which was definitely a first for me. The pins weren't in and we just shot for a sprinkler head cover in front of the green, but it was still swinging a club. There was also a course in southern NH open, so if you count that "round" in January, I've played 4 total rounds this year. It looked like courses were about to open and then we got a foot of snow that dropped canceling that from happening. Hopefully these 60 degree days that we're about to have is going to melt a lot of that away!

Detroit Metro Michigan courses started opening last week.

Our winter was fairly dormant, it was in the 50's mid January and people were playing.

I got a buddy with an OptiShot simulator setup in his garage so we've been playing that throughout the winter.

Just got out to the range twice this past weekend, was in the 60's yesterday.  Today rain, but rest of week supposed to be 60's and sunny.

Hoping to get my first round in tomorrow... gotta try out my new R11S on the course!

This is just ridiculous in NY today. Almost 70. Thinking about getting in a post-work 9.

I'm itching to do the same. I'll probably take a half day this week and play a full 18 with my buddies. It's almost scary how nice it has been.

I pulled it off. Teed off by 5:25 and finished a 12 hole course before dark. Its very comforting knowing I can get it in after work. A local 9 hole course is only $11 during the week. I got no problem playing instead of the gym after work!

  • 2 weeks later...

It finally cooled down up here, and now its about 50, which under normal March circumstances would be butter for playing, but it feels to cold to play!

Yeah and here on Long Island we have wind gusts up to 30 mph.

played on cape cod last saturday, mid to high 40's, was a bit chilly, but the course was in great shape and besides letting a fast 2-some play through we didn't see another person on the course all day...

a good way to start the season...

We usually open at the very end of April or early May but with a wicked 4 day warm-up we had last week it melted most the snow in the open areas in Northern Maine. We are back down to normal temps now but that brief warm-up might allow us to open a week or two earlier then normal, I hope. I am really praying for mid-April as that is a vacation week for me and since I'm not coaching softball this year I could really get out and play that week. I've started at least swinging again and working on the mechanics which at least feels good.

Yeah in NY its been about 70-75 for almost two weeks, and now its 50, crazy change. Trying to figure out if I can hack playing 9 holes today after I get out of the office!

    • Amazing picture.   One of my favorite vacations!
    • I can see how some people might not think or know it is how they are pushing against the ground that causes your hips to spin in a certain way. It makes sense when he describes torque. Also, that PGA Tour average is like 2x more push with the left leg than the right leg.  Yea, if someone is very right side dominant, or just has a weakness in their left leg, they could struggle with early extension no matter how they try to keep the tush back. Even if you feel your left leg extend, if the direction of the force is not pushing the hip back and up behind you, it can push your leg back and away from the target more, which is not ideal.  Pending muscle weaknesses and mobility, I almost feel like early extension is solved at this point.

    • Ah man, that is on the northern border. I was out at the Grand Canyon last year with the family. We hit the south rim and went down to Sedona. Which, it is unfair how gorgeous it is out in Sedona.
